    Hi everyone.
I recently changed the oil and fiter and noted a black canister, and today I cleaned the air filter (KN) and find a label on the air filter box where is indicated that mine is a California Model.

Last week I was testing the max speed and my bike reaches hardly 215 kmh (about 133 mi), I thought the air filter was clogged and the spark plugs should de changed, I check them and are ok, the air filter is now super clean an well lubricated,.

Has anyone try to eliminate the plumbing ,is it worth enough? or is there a big difference between the normal and the California version?
My previous VFR (5th gen was faster and feels lighter than the actual model)
all this in terms of performance, not only high speed.
    any suggestion will be appreciated.

I believe that all 6th gen bikes are built to california specs. You can remove the pair system and canister with blockoff plates for an afternoons work and $25 but it wont increase your performance. It will just eliminate some weight and a system to fail. Your bike should have a higher top speed than it does, especialy if you are getting your reading from the speedo and not a gps. I would check your tire pressure, chain tension, etc... and if things dont pick up have it looked at by the dealer under warranty.

I don't think that there are any California model 6th gen. VFR's E. I believe I read that all U.S.model 6th gen. VFR's were built to meet the California emissions requirements. I live in the frozen wastelands of Wisconsin and I've got a decal on my airbox that states my 2003 VFR800 meets the California exhaust emissions standards. Is this the same decal you've got on your airbox?

The black canister you mentioned that's bolted under your starter is the EVAP canister. It's an emissions related component. The EVAP canister's function is to collect and store fuel vapors from your gastank. When the bike is up to operating temperature the EVAP canister purge control solenoid opens and allows those stored gas vapors to pass into the intake tract to be burned. Basically it's just some extra dead weight your bike has to drag along with it. It's super simple to remove E. With the EVAP canister removed it makes it a lot easier to get your hand or a filter wrench in there to remove and install the oil filter. For that one reason alone it's definitely worth it to remove the EVAP canister. It'll take you about half an hour, maybe forty five minutes tops to do the job. If you decide to remove your EVAP canister and need some help PM me E,I've got detailed pics and I'll walk you through it step by step.

    Thanks for the info,
I guess I'll keep things as they are until test speed with the air filter clean, the tire pressure is 36 PSi front, and 40 PSI rear, the drive chain is OK (the previous owner replaced it), my bike is a 2002 model so the dealer wont accept any guarantee reclamation .
I do not need more speed I just wanted to know about the max speed available.
When I need more speed I use my other bike honda CBR 600 RR 2007 ( it`s fast and super light weight).
    Thanks again.

Yep that's the same vacuum hose routing decal that's on the airbox cover on my '03.

I could have a bad memory, but I think most of the 6th Gen's were "officially" clocked by the motorcycle magazines at about 147MPH, which would probably show 155 on the speedometer.

And that is what I got out of mine by the speedo however accurate that was. There was more throttle but I am told I had pretty much found the top end. There is some issue with yours but I could not even hint at what.. BTW. I have only done that once. That was crazy.

    Hi

just a quick thought maybe the previous owner changed the sprockets with the chain.
And that might result in a lower top end speed.
You can check how many teeth there are against what it should be.

Just an idea for the lack of speed.

Thanks. I've checked that and the bike has new sprockets and chain with the original measures. 16/43
