I took norcalboy's advise and went up 2 teeth on the rear sprocket instead of dropping one on the front sprocket. Also took his advise on getting longer chain instead of using regular length. He really is da man. Anyway i was able to ride today for the first time since the install of the 45 tooth because of snow. I am quite impressed. For my style of riding,(gear high using momentum). this is the real set-up. It really transformed this bike into a bike with a very usable power-band. Yes the speedo is messed up even more but wow it really has some quick pick up. I highly recommend this simple mod for anyone looking for a little spunkier Viffer. Once again thanks plenty norcalboy I think it should be norcalman. wilburj
Norcal Does seem to know a little something about these things. What chain length did you end up with?
I think it was a 112 link in any case it was 2 links more than stock. Do the longer chain if you are going to do this . wilburj
Hummm…Last year I ordered a 45-tooth sprocket with a 112 links chain. I had it installed by the Honda dealer ($65) and he had to cut it to 110 links because with the 112 it was near the end of adjustment.
Where does the speedo get its reading? Why would it be off with a sprocket change? How can you fix it? Flash
I went -1/+2 with a 112 link chain. After I installed I felt the chain was too long so I took out two links to a 110 link chain. Much better now.
You fix with a speedo healer. about $115.00...I didn't spend the money on a healer. I'm not selling the viffer any time soon. so I don't care about the miles!
So an 07 VFR runs off the front wheel so no speedo healer is needed? Also, where is a good place to buy a +2 rear spocket for an 07? Thanks, Flash
I went +2 on the rear sprocket as well. I also installed a SpeedoHealer to correct the MPH reading. I think it was off by something like 9%.
The reason I say the speedo is way off is it is off right from the factory, but when I was riding it on a regular 2 lane highway at 65mph it did not seem to be anywhere near that speed and I was passed by every cager on the road a 55mph posted road. Soooo I just assumed the speedo was off but perhaps everyone was in a huge hurry that day. Also I just read a report that the speedo is run from the transmission. wilburj
