I've been looking around for a new bike for a bit and always loved the way the vfr looks. Local dealer has an 07 for 8k, I'm really thinking about getting it. I've read up and did some lurking on the forums and I'm looking for pretty much confirmations on what I've read from the guys and gals that ride 'em everyday.

I currently own a 98 bandit 1200s. I'm 42 and commute about 100 miles a day, my biggest complain about the bandit is the wobbly handling in corners and the damn buzzy handle bars, I've owned the bike for 9 years..and need a change.

    So here goes some questions
Is the vfr comfy on long rides?
Is it smooth or will it put my hands to sleep like my Bandit does?
How much is maintenance going to run? Does it eat lots of oil?

I'm really thinking about grabbing it but waffling cause I got a good price on an a Aprilia Tuono R just not sure how practical that thing would be:)

get it and welcome to the madness.
I have a 02 and other then oil change ( doesnt burn any oil at all ) and gas and tires, imo has been a great bike.
Long rides, look into heli bars and aftermarket seat. IMO stock seat is great in the twisties, after 2-3 hours slabbin it it gets to be a pain in the arse.
bike is not buzzy at all.

Keep shopping around. There have been plenty of good deals on VFR's in the low $7000 range. Does the bike you are looking at have ABS brakes? If you are willing to drive a bit you might be able to score one for cheaper. Keep in mind that you can also get some great deals on used bikes with all the aftermarket goodies included.

    Regards,
    Rollin

I bought my second 07 in December and paid $8200 for the ABS model. As mentioned above, change the seat. Stock seat is awful and I replaced mine with a Sargent.

The Tuono would probably be more fun on weekends, but would royally suck in the commute IMO. The maint costs on it almost surely are more than the VFR I would think also. Biggest expense on that model VFR is gonna be your valve checks if you bother to do them... The RWB ones sure are pretty...

yeah, look around. Just bought a new anniversary 07 and love it. And got it pretty much for the price of a clean used one out the door.

As has been stated here, you can probably get one for a little less $$. That said, I've had my 07 for close to 1.5 years, and while I don't commute daily, my rides are usually between 200-350 miles. I replaced the stock bars with Helibars, and have minimum comfort issues (seat). Good luck in your search, and let us kow what you finally decide. Ride safe!

Hey Bandit, I don't know what part of the country you're from, but there are plenty of VFR's out there for a decent price. Found this while surfing. KBB says it's worth $6500. I just called and they're asking $5800. Doesn't sound like a bad deal. If you are up in the Northeast region, then here's a website. Columbia Mortorsports. Or you can try cycle trader.com for your area. About a month ago I found eight 2007's within 100 miles of my zip. RWB's, Red's, ABS, NON-ABS, all within about 8K, zero miles and sitting on the showroom floor. I've got a 93 and love it. I commute about 45 min one way each day and have no problems. The bars a slightly buzzy, but I've gotten used to it and adjusted my riding style. My longest trip has only been about 3 hours straight with no issues. As many others have said, do a little research and check out several sites before buying. But, I've gotta tell you, you can't go wrong with a VFR. Good luck. Post pic's when you can.

I purchased an 07 rwb last fall in Searcy AR for $7400, non abs. Love it. I only have 2500 miles on it, mostly commuting. We did a weekend trip of about six hundred miles or better, worked great. I was concerned about commfort comming from an HD sportster, the vfr wins period. I think the only thing I should have done differently was ante up for the hard luggage, but aftermarket jobs can be had more affordably. Only done one oil change, no leaks or issues. This is speculation: I thiink the vfr is like my accord, repairs can be pricey, but are very rarely needed. Good luck. Hope you land a great deal on one soon.

got my 07 last year, no buzz in the bars, and yes the seat will need to be changed if your slabbing it for hours on end. I did a 8h (500 mile) trip last summer and had no real issue with comfort save needed better gloves. you will love the distance you can go between fillups, I regularly go about 250km to 320km (depending on how hard im riding).

over all its a good bike, hasnt ate any oil yet, plugs are pricey if you foul one but not bad. parts are cheaper than any harley ive seen so far if you wreck it though they are not cheap either.

and welcome to our corner of the universe, just let the madness overtake you

I too came from the HD line. I truly enjoy riding this bike!

You can find one cheaper. There are still new 07 VFR bikes out there. I bought mine the end of October, 09 for $7100. By now, you should find one in the mid to upper 6's! Check ebay! It may be worth the cost of a fly and ride (spring is almost here!).
