    Hi all,

I just bought a 98 VFR and it was missing the center stand. Further inspection shows that the headers are in the way of the mounting area, which is too bad because I would like to have the centerstand.

So I assume these pipes are aftermarket. I dont have much info on the bike as I am the third owner and the second didnt keep it long.

first question - how can I get the chain adjusted now before I have time to look into sssa track stands or stock headers and a centerstand?

second - any way to tell what pipes I do have and if they are an improvement over the stock set? I do not have a bunch of money to throw at this right now so I am looking for the best//most practical solution.

    Thanks
    -b

I think those are the stock headers and a center stand will fit fine. to adj the chain you will need to use some sort of stand.

Those look like the stock 98 headers im getting ready to install on my 6th gen. A SSSA stand will be your quickest easiest way to get the chain adjusted. If you really really need it adjusted, go to your local honda dealer and ask them to let you borrow one from the back for a few minutes and do it in the lot or have them adjust it. Most good dealerships are cool about that kind of stuff and it shouldn't be a problem if you're not leaving the property with it.

ok great, if those are stock then I will hunt down a center stand. They looked like the would interfere with the mounting but I could be wrong. I have to go to the dealer to get an inspection so I am sure they can tell me.

    Thanks

It does interfere with it mounting but you might be in luck. Most of us have to remove thet slip on to be able to install/uninstall the center stand. It attaches to the bike above the collector but the bottom of the center stand rests under the collector. Sounds odd but it works. Unfortunately I don't have a good picture for ya.

I too bought my 99 without a center stand. I sourced one out on ebay with all the hardware, but that ONE right side bolt was a real pain. Eventually I got it in - only took about 3 hours. Pried back the headers to get that last MM or two it takes to get the bolt in. My advice would be VERY VERY carefull not to cross thread it. That's what I did initially, hence the 3 hours. I suppose you could get a shorter bolt and it would be easier to install. Now I can clean my chain on a moments whim. Totally worth the trouble and money spent. :thumb:

If you go to any of the sites that list a parts list and microfiche for the VFR like ron ayers or bikebandit, it should specify the size and length needed. I dont know if Jeeters did this and had the wrong size bolt or not, but making sure that you've got the right size bolt (even if ordering from honda) should save you a lot of grief.
