    Hey y'all,
Sorry if this is not the right place to post this, but would anybody happen to know what this thing is here next to the tach?

I did a lot of research about this shortly after I bought the VFR and it was quite odd that few knew about it at the time. What it is for is for the H.I.S.S (Honda Ignition Security System). The location you specify is where a button would go to turn off the H.I.S.S. If this is installed, there is also the lettering H.I.S.S above the ignition where the key goes and there is also an LED on the tach mounted between 0 and 13 in the black section of the tach.

As the name suggests, this is part of Honda's anti-theft security measures. Unfortunately it seems as this option was never available in the U.S. but is available (and required) in many other countries around the world, mostly the UK. It would seem that Honda was simply lazy when designing the dash for the non-H.I.S.S models and instead of making the hole disappear entirely, they simply left the spot there plugged from the injection molding process. The official carbon fiber dash cover from Honda that is available only overseas also has the spot for this, however it is a hole instead of plugged like the dash is.

All of that being said, it has come to my mind many times that it would be a great spot to install some sort of push button on/off switch for some sort of random accessory and still maintain a factory look, especially if you could get some sort of rubber boot or grommet that would fit in there nicely around the switch. I've also thought of it as being a good spot for a flashing shift indicator light, however it is too low on the dash and you would already be looking at the tach for such a thing.

    Next question?

:hail:Awesome, thanks! That makes total sense to me. At first i also guessed it might possibly be some sort of "lens" or light sensor, but definitely also thought that it was probably for an option that just isn't there on some (or most) models......

I been debating on putting four way flashers on my '02 and using this spot for a pushbutton location to turn them on/off.

The only realistic choice for this would be a 60lb N.O.S activator.

I never understood why so many bikes never had a fuel gauge, it seems more useful to me then a hazard light switch like my Gixxer has. Instead i got a dummy light that comes on that basically says fuel up soon asshole you're almost out of gas!

I always thought it was a sensor for the windshield wipers and figured mine just never worked.
