Which would you buy? '86 or '92 VFR750?

Hello, trying to decide on two different bikes. One is a 1986 VFR750 with 18,000 miles on it, the other is a 1992 with 39,000. The 1986 is $400 more, both look solid and are well maintained.
Go with newer tech or old school?
    thanks

First off, WELCOME! Secondly, go 92, single side swing arm is awesome. High CDI factor(Chicks Dig It)

I believe if you do enough research you will go with the 92----many improvements with 3rd gen

'93 for me. 39,000 miles shouldn't detour you from this bike, it really isn't much for a VFR, and with proper maintenence it will probably out live your desire to own it. Plus the swingarm thing and, not sure, but I'm thinking parts will be a whole lot easier to come by. More HP, $400 less, and the list goes on and on.

Now watch an '86 owner get pissed! Still a great bike guys, just sayin'...if given the choice.

Quality replacement parts are getting harder and harder to find for the older bikes... I would go for the 92.

and yeah I have an 86 700 piss off you wankers.

go for the 92 in all seriousness. parts aren't as hard to find and it does have the SSSA...

I used to opt for the latest and greatest but now after a few thousand miles I really like the 86/87... it gets all the attention at bike night. Collector bike insurance only cost me $120 a year for full coverage + antique tag in another year dirt cheap.

You gotta be old school if a '92 is the latest and greatest.

Then what the hell have I been riding? I think the dealership jipped me man!

Oh man, by a long shot the 86 is cooler. You won't get a second glance with the 92 but the 86 will have guys trying to ask you questions about it at stoplights. No contest!

I have to admit I do love my 86 but it sometimes is hard to find parts for example I am looking for just some bolts for some of the plastic peices and I am having trouble but like Mr Daugherty said I get asked about my bike all the time but in the end I guess you just up to you and your personell choice good luck with which ever one you chose.

don't be a tight wad. buyem both! the 86 if left in it's current condition will appreciate in value. The 92 on the other hand is is more technically advanced with better suspension , brakes, wheels and radials tires not to mention the SSS. If you plan on doing a lot of riding go with the 92. The 86 would need quite a bit up updating to really be good. Trust me I've done it. But it is way cool!

It depends on what you're looking for. If you want the nostalgic value, then the '86 is the only way to go. If you want something to run hard, then the '92 is more advanced. Ask yourself why you're looking to buy a VFR. The answer should be clear to you.

Not that I don't appreciate all the help(grabbed quote) , I have to admit I need a commuter and maybe the '92 is the better choice...?
I LOVE the classic(to me) red/white/blue of the the '86 though, it calls to my heart, but my gut says '92.
Not that it matter too much but the '86 seller(19 and did all the work on it) said the petcock went bad and is leaking gas. He dropped the price by $50
