Hey all here at VFR world, first post but I've been watching the site for awhile as my addiction to the idea of a VFR has grown.

I've more or less settled entirely on getting a VFR and ideally would get one from the 3rd generation or 4th generation. I'm a big guy at 6'3" and want to travel longer distances by bike so the VFR seems to be the perfect fit, plus looks bad-ass.

There's a few VFR's up here in the Vancouver, Canada area I've been looking at and trying. Just recently I thought I'd found the deal to have at $2600 for a slightly beat up, but in decent condition bike. After taking it into Honda for the safety check I found it would need about $1600 to get it running at tip-top again. Not worth it.

There was another one being sold by a real nice guy a little further out so I decided why not, I'll go take a look. He had a super high price for his 1993 VFR but I figured I might be able to get him a little lower.

This VFR is mint. It has:

    About 17,000 miles (27,000km's)
    Left side Hindle pipe
    Jetted and dyno'd
    new chain
    new sprockets
    new Battle Axe tires
    new seat
FRESH paint and decals (literally not a scratch on the thing)
    black powder coated frame
    polished chrome rims
chromed cylinder heads (sort of stupid of the owner as you can't see them under the fairing)
    chrome accessories (grips, pegs, etc)
was in the shop for valves, fluids and brakes under 2500miles ago
    all service records

The guy was a Harley guy and this was his secondary ride so he really went all out on the chrome, not that it matters to me at all. It's in cherry condition and that is nice. The unfortunate part is he's asking:

$4200CAN or about $3950US which I got down from 5000.

What I'm wondering is if I'm getting robbed. I've tried my darndest to get down to ideal price which would be about $3500CAN and what I think is fair of VFR's that age but he's rock solid and says he's invested over 10,000 and wants to get that back. I've told him that he's nuts and his mods, though costly, do not interest me (and plausibly the next purchaser if I were ever to sell). I'm sure I'll love this VFR like no tomorrow and will keep it around, but don't want to get into something that is going to de-value exceedingly quickly. What do y'all think? Am I in over my head in love with the wrong VFR for the wrong price?

    Thanks for the replies.

I paid 3500 for mine....only one available but it was in great shape. Prices in Canada dont jive with the US. 3500 is about average for a decent 3rd gen. I have been looking for another for a year....I do have a line on a black on black...for this price.

Thanks for the replies and opinions. I know these threads can be sort of inane and boring as so many people ask the same thing and every bike is different.

It's a tough one to find one of these VFR's that's both in good condition and the color you're looking for with worthwhile options. There's now a 1992 that's up on the block at 2500 and I'll be going to take a look at. Wish me luck!

Good luck! If I were prepared to go to $4500 I would be looking at a 98.

Well... I pulled the trigger. I got him down a bit further and here I am... A more or less mint 1993 VFR. Just put on 100km's on my first ride. I was like a kid on a... Hmmm, what analogy here. It was like a mobile candy store that delivered more and more candy as time went on. What a feeling. I love VFR's! Torque and power beyond belief... Such a big difference from my 1979 Kawasaki! Ha! What a day. Can't wait for more km's... Now I just need to figure out where all that gas went... Hmmmm...

Would love to see pics. I have a 93 but some previous owner painted it yellow along the way. I'm looking into having some minor fairing repair and repaint in the original color. Does anyone know if the original graphics are still available?

Alllllright... Well here's the first quick one I took after I waxed it up. I'll get out and take a more "scenic" shot eventually but here's what you get for now. Driveway shot.

IT'S nice......except for the black powdercoated frame, which is an abomination !!

PO polished the valve covers, which mostly aren't visible but blacked out a pretty alloy frame which is ??

I dunno... I actually kinda dig the black frame. It makes the seat integrate super clean with the bike. I'll get a different shot of it and you'll see it ain't half bad. Yep, the valve covers are chromed out, as is the alternator cover. He chromed a bunch of stuff under the fairings as well, but hey, wasn't my choice! I just wanted a clean, non-abused VFR, and here I am.
