VFR in Japan

    I'm retired U. S. Navy and have lived and worked in Japan for the last 28 years. This 2005 Japanese spec VFR is my latest love. She's trying to replace a 2000 Honda Varadero, which is not an easy task. The Varadero was a great bike, but it was getting a little too big (tall) for me. It's nice to be able to put my feet flat on the ground at stoplights again!:smile:

    Zero Gravity Sport Touring windscreen, Corbin seat, and Convertibars are on the way but won't be here in time for my trip to the mountains this week. Hope my back and butt survive!

    Beautiful bike ... spent some time in Japan myself waaaay back; with the Navy and without. Japanese spec VFR ... I wonder how that differs from US spec?

    Hey good looking!

    Great looking bike! I had my VFR750 out there in Yokosuka when I was stationed there in 98. Very few big bikes out there which is odd as that's where they come from! But I will say there was more on the roads my last trip out there 2 months ago.

    As far as I know, the only difference between the Japanese spec model and the export models is that horsepower is somehow limited to 80 vs 105~ for the export bikes. Judging from the miles (or kilometers) that I've put on it so far, 80 bhp seems to be plenty for the kind of riding I do. However... more is better, and I'm trying to find a tuner over here that knows how to "power up" the VFR. I imagine it'll involve snipping a wire here or there, slip-ons, a K&N filter, and a PCIII USB. One way or another, these stock mufflers have gotta go!

    as i know, there are alots of japanese bike import to my country ( Vietnam ) which are limited on horsepower ( must be under 100 hp) and limited speed ( under 180 km/h, about 115mph). There are several way to unblock the speed and power limit is replace the unrestricted part to your bike such as: ECU, RAM Air, sprocket,chain and exhaust. The cheapest way that we always did is : Re-wire the ECU, gutting the Ram air,gutting the exhaust ( the restricted japanese version can recognize by looking at the bottom of exhaust which is smaller than US and Europe version ) and replace the new chain. Usually is from 525 to 530 O ring chain. My advise is if you dont know anything about mechanic, you better contact some group of biker to modify it for you, otherwise you will mess up with the wire and electric part of your VFR. Most of the way to unblock the power restriction was come from Japan, where they was born.
    Other method if you can not find anyone to help you. Just buy the part from ebay and do some research of know how. BUT before you do it, cause i never travel to Japan so i am not sure about : IF you modify your bike, will you pass the MOT? and maybe it will be the Illegal Act cause Japanese Police will not chase any vehicle has speed above 180km/h.
