hey guys havent been on here for awhile but as promised in previous poss pics of my bike. it is only very partially restored a present due to money and time restrictions, however its on its way :)

as you can see form the pic i have so far bought a new touring screen which has made a huge difference as well as new grips.

so as you can see from the pics shes looking ok, however for those of you with keen eye site lol, there are a number of issues.

1: its an import to the uk and therefore is running with kmph clocks.

2: the rear left exhaust is not lined correctly, this i found out is due to a previous owner letting it rot away over a winter and the rear subframe being remade by hand rather than a new one bought. not good.

3: there are numerous chips and scratches, not surprising for a bike that is this old.

4: its been resprayed to a newer paintscheme, it should actually be a white and blue VFR.

5: it is standard screws and washers that are pinning the fairing and screen on.

anyway those are some of the problems here is what i have done so far

    Replaced the Screen
    Replaced the Grips
    New Rectifier
    New rear tyre
New top and bottom head bearings and fork oil
    New Brake Pedal
Full Service including K&N Filter, Iridium Plugs and Good Quality Oil

things on order and to be done over the winter

New Dashboard in MPH of the bay
New Rear Subframe of the bay
New Motad 4-2-1 Stainless Steel Silencer
    New Chain and sprockets
    Wheels refurbed and painted black

thats pretty much as much as my wallet will allow for now, however come next season im going to look o have the bike resprayed possibly depending on price.

However i do have a question as well.

Is it worth reducing either of the sprockets by a tooth or two or should i just buy the exact replacements ?

    Thanks

    memph

well times moved on a bit.

have sourced and received delivery of the new dashboard and mount in MPH. also received the new subframe which has been sanded down and hammerited ready for the install.

new motad exhaust has again arrived and is stored ready for when i take the bike of the road this winter.

New chain and sprocket bought, and installed due to suffering from a tight spot in the chain after last adjustment, the old sprockets were shall we say fairly well worn :) questiton here though as i wen with standard sprockets the old rear hat was on was a 46 instead of a 45, will i see any perfomance difference ?

Black fairing fasteners have again been bought and ready for the winter strip down and rebuild.

looking forward to it now but on the downside a second battery has died in 4 months, now the rectifier was replaced after this battery was found boiling and now it will not hold a charge for more than a couple of hours (while on a bench), so im putting it down to the battery being cream crackered from the pre new rectifier miles.

anyhow will get more pics up soon as the strip and build continues ready for the next bike season :)

One of the best things you can do to liven that bike up is go with 1 tooth smaller than stock on the front, youll actually use sixth gear then. 1 tooth bigger on the rear or smaller you probably wont feel. The rule of thumb is 1 front = 3 rear teeth

oh one further question, the headlight on the bike is poor so i was thinking of replacing the bulb with something like an osram night-breaker will these fit straight in ?

I put Sylvania Silverstar Ultra's in all my cars and bikes, they're direct fit and no extra amp draw.

Some thoughts that come to me:

If the rectifier wiring looks hinky, get some beefy connectors and do it right.

Consider a fork brace and maybe new springs in the front. Better yet, a 900rr front end rules on these bikes.

Looks like the rubber chain guard is missing. A loose chain will wear down that aluminum fast.

    Re-jet for your new exhaust.

Looks like a worthy project. Good luck with it!

thanks mate, the rubber chain guard is missing ? there is one above the chain on the left hand side of the bike should there be another one ?

in terms of the forks I have been considering new springs probably hagon progressive as well as a new rear hagon shock on the bike but money is an issue where both of those are concerned at the moment.

Rejetting the carbs is definitely something Im looking a doing once the bikes back together and up and running.

some new pics while putting back together

and with the new exhaust on
    [IMG]

    and from the back

since the last post we've also charged the new battery, started the bike and found as per my other thread the rev counter not to be working although on the upside the bike sounds a little more throaty now with the new exhaust on. Also changed the front headlight bulb for an Osram Night breaker and the difference is quite amazing.

thinks still to do, get the rev counter working, wash wax and polish the fairing then put back together and go out and ride !

next things to do are to ge the rev counter working

Its #9 on the schematic. ToeCutter warned me about these things getting old, breaking loose and getting wedged into the front sprocket. Ive seen swing arms chewed up from chain wear because this part was missing. If you choose not to use it, dont let your chain get too loose.

    Cheers.

    Hi fellow uk viffer owner.
Shouldn't need a re-jet with the motad fitted.
There is a uk based vfr club
