LOL just jump on the bike and go, Keep it simple. Where's the spirit of adventure if one plans on everything to happen. just hit the road. All though make sure you have a valid Debit card, I did find that does come in handy.. Have fun now.

Their was a guy on here maybe a year ago who had a bike shipped to him and it was a disaster. Do some reasearch on here and you'll find his thread. From what I remember the company that was hired really trashed the bike. There may be some good advice in that thread. +1 on vfrcpts list. I also have something called quickclot in my tankbag or on my person. Its a bandage that has a powder substance on it that helps seal wounds. Also have in your wallet or on your persons an emergency contact numbers and anything pertaining to your health (allergies to medications, ect) if, god forbid, anything happens to you on the trip. You also stated you wanted to put your netbook in the tankbag. Im not sure (and Ill throw ths little hijack of a thread out), if that would be good for your netbook since your tankbag may have magnets in it to secure it to the tank. I know this reply seems a bit down but since youll be coming through my neck of the woods and if you have time PM me and Ill get the first round. Have a safe trip.

Hard to say on that double up riding. The bag attaches at three points with straps w/camlocks. The main attach points are the peg hangars. IOW easy on, easy off. The pocket originally designed for a sleeping bag is flanked by two more pockets to hold bottles of your choice ie drinking. fuel ect. Could it be done? I think so. How comfortable it would be for a passenger if packed remains to be seen.

I have a Marsee magnetic tankbag. Very large and strong magnets. Expandable and the bag unzips from the magnet holder and doubles not as a backpack but a shoulder bag with a strap.

One deal not mentioned about I-10 is East of El Paso. Bring coffee.
