I see you can buy a new 2009 for about $9100( maybe even less)? Which is pretty cool, unless you bought a 2008 for $9600 and got the extended warranty ($600) add sales tax and 12 payments later I still owed $9,088 on the 2008.

My only consolation is I know that in time that gloss black paint of the 09 is going to scratch and fade. Still I like the black bike, sort of wished I had waited a year had I known they were going to take a dive in price.

Still I wouldn't have had the joy of ownership this past year, yet I'M surprised they went down in price.

It's just one of those things. As you said, you have had it a year. Had you waited, who knows if you would have even gotten a VFR, you might end up waiting again saying "what if it drops again, or should I get the next model?" what's done is done, water under the bridge, bygones are bygones, <insert more cliche here>

That is a pretty good price for the last of the 6th gen viffers. I paid $4200 for mine used, i still think it was a great deal for a 02 w/ 4200mile on the clock, red wasnt really my color choice but its lowly growing on me. Ive had some good times on it, now the odo reads over 14K miles yikes!

Hah! I bought mine with 5300 miles for $4100. It's a red 02 also. Funny.

Keep the bike forever and it won't matter how much you paid. That was my plan before purchase and is still my plan after purchase.

Dealers are going to try to get rid of old stock fast now that there is a new generation coming out. It doesn't matter so much as long as the current generation is being produced unless there is a high demand in the paint color from one year to the next. AFAIK, there are 07's that are still out there for 6-7k new.

Remember, if you wanted the '09 at that price you would have had to wait a full year without riding.

So, this really is the end of the VFR800, no dual models being sold next year?

I take it prices are the same in BC?

The exuse they gave me was that they bought the bikes from Honda when the Canadian dollar was low. I try not to buy anything from them unless I am absolutely desperate.

Local shop has a '08 leftover asking $11,499. My next bike will probably be a US import - if things don't change.

You will enjoy the bike more if you accept the price you paid. My local dealer has had one '08 and one '09 on the floor for as long as each bike has been out. The last VFR they sold was my '08 in November '08. In contrast, they had 15 '08 CBR 1000's that they got cheap in November and now they are all gone. They sold them at $8k ea. They sold 15! At least in my neck of the woods, the VFR's are not selling. I suspect they are selling better in other areas.

when i was a young man I could never afford a new VFR...now i have the money but i just wouldn't buy new because i dont want to pay 15% tax plus 1000 dollars freight!!!

Can you friggin believe that? Our Canadian Goverment is raping us...and so are the dealers here..

oops...I guess i should not of said that since i work for the Canadian gov....hehe

Anyhow my point is the reason VFRs are so expensive compared to zx11, zx10, gixxers is because of the reliability factor i am told..

I have the same views - which was why they had me over a barrel (although hopefully they didn't know it) - once I'd made the decision I wanted a VFR - my search for a low mileage, ABS model turned up nothing - so when I finally went to the stealer and saw a Demo model (hence no delivery/destination charges) it was a done deal

I got an '08 w/ABS for $8088, but the dealer raped me on freight and prep (Freight $498, Prep $398) plus taxes. My first bike though. Still feel I got a good deal. It was the only one in town w/ ABS.

Well damn, guess I got a fair deal on mine then. I'm here in Arkansas and picked up my 06 in July of 08 with 1200 miles on it. With an additional two yr. warranty I rode out of there for approx. $8100 taxes and all, plus they paid off my 06 Suzuki Kanotuna to the tune of $4500.
