Actually I was only half kidding there cause I wondered how someone would hand signal over there. I suppose you could always signal with the hand closest to the curb, but that does not seem right for some reason.

Just do what 95% of the drivers in California do when they intend to change lanes; nothing! Just change lanes.

You don't use your hands. That's what the indicators and brake lights are for. Taking your hands off the steering could land you with a ticket. "operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner or cannot have proper control of the vehicle" When you do your training to ride a motorbike they do not teach you hand signals. Car drivers don't know what they mean anyway so whats the point.

What are the two different courts? traffic court and.......traffic court light? you would have received a summons in the mail from both courts..

They don't really teach it here anymore either. But the intentions are still there. You will find that most provinces require that your driver's window be operable. This is so that you can use your hands to signal should your indicators fail. Like a blown fuse or something. Like that has happened to me all the time

7th district east and west. and i wouldent get a summons. the officer informs you of the date deadline for your arraignment. go in. say guilty or not guilty. then you aregiven a date for a pretrial conference.

    Did you phone to confirm?

I find it amazing that you are issued a citation for a court appearance and the date of the first apperance is not on the citation. I mean WTF. If you forget the date mentioned to you, what are your back ups for ensuring you attend court as ordered. I don't doubt you here. I am just commenting to what I presume to be common sence. After all, a citation is really a form of summons if court appearance is required to answer to the alegations. That is not the case here in BC. You are presumed to have committed the aledged offence unless you dispute the allegations, and the hows wheres and whens are printed on the back of the ticket as to how to dispute the allegation. Oh BTW.....no warrants here for traffic matters for BC licenced drivers. Just for your out of province slobs.

(thank God for the edit tag. I have come back about 5 times to change this. Happy Robbie Burns day and have a scotch or two)

you are correct. i doublechecked and the date was on it.

however this was only for the east court.

the cop sent this to both the east and west courts, so there was no way i would have known a date for the west court even existed.

i was given a ticket for east, the cop sent that ticket to both the east and west so i unknowingly had 2 court dates. the warrent was because i missed the west court date.

I don't understand how the LEO could send one ticket to two courts. I can imagine a scenerio where he may have changed the ticket face because he made a mistake in jurisdictions. But, not knowing your court rules there, I would suggest that you needed to be inofrmed of this change. And if not, then the jurisdiction to prosecute this alegation would be lost. Again, your proceedures are obviously different than ours.

Anyways. I always support my fellow LEOs so long as they are correct, or at least are acting in good faith. But I also believe in the right to challenge tickets I issued and thought no less of those who disputed them. Unless they were assholes and believe me, there are lots of those out there. I got paid regardless if I won or lost.

what city/state are you in? you have an east and west court? thats a big city....every speeding ticket that I have gotten with the exception of missouri, I had received a Friendly "reminder" of the pending court dates.

it just sounds crazy that a ticket would be sent to two places...maybe he was a county deputy and he made the initial stop in the city limits, and decided to get the city and the county a little bit of money....but it would be the same ticket.. you are in a sense charged with one crime twice...thats double jeopardy.. the whole thing sounds hokey to me..........

I learnt to ride on an old Triumph. The rear brake pedal was on the left; the shifter was on the right.

thats just what he did. made a mistake in the jurisdiction. he let the computer print out a ticket and handed it to me. afterwards he realized it was the wrong jurisdiction.

what he SHOULD have done was changed the ticked and made sure of two things. 1 the eticket (automatic printout ticket) did not get automaticially sent to the court 2 and made sure that i got informed by someone that i would need to go to a different court than what was on my ticket.

double jepordy wouldent count unless i got convicted twice.

Some bikes had LH shift, some RH shift. Some were up for 1st some were down for 1st. Some were convertable with bosses attached to lower frame members to do the conversion. Some bikes had tank shifts and foot clutches including suicide clutches.

Some GP or Moto-GP bikes shift on either side.

There are recognized lists of hand signals for group riding and for racing. If one could not remove one's hands from the controls on the bars, how could they scratch their cojones?

..and yep there are some bikes that did have LH throttles.

Could or would the dude who got "arrested" have his lawyer explain WTF is going on? Who is Gofer's lawyer anyway?

If you ride an older bike, 1971 Triumph for me, or almost anything from Italy built before 1995, the likelihood of having an electrical problem that effects indicator lights is pretty high,so knowing hand signals, and how to control your bike while you make 'em, is crucial.

How to behave when passing animals on the road isn't really addressed either in the UK or in the US. Doesn't mean that you shouldn't know how to pass or approach someone riding a horse.

Try "traffic laws horses" on Google. Not much on passing mooses thank God, giving a whole new meaning to the Bette Davis line, "What a dump!"

Well now we are finally getting down to it. A simple mistake. No one intentionally trying to do anyone any harm. Just a simple mistake. I have never made one of those.

BTW, double jepardy is being charged twice. So yes, this could be looked at as double jepardy
