I have an '07 and recently tried to get the seat off. The seat has always been hard to slide off but now it stuck. The latch sounds like it disengages and I've used a mallet to pound the seat loose with no luck. The seat feels like it's jammed into the slide holders and won't budge.

Has anyone experienced this problem before? The rear cowl is on the seat and I'm loathed to whack that with the mallet.

I havent had that problem but try sitting on the seat, turn the key and shift your weight back. I dont know if this will help but its worth a shot.

agreed have someone sit on the seat, unlock the key while you lift up the back of the seat to get it out of the latch, you will need to hold the back up while person sitting on the seat slides back.
    hope it helps

Mine has always been hard to get off too (HAHAHA! That's what she said)...anyway I always have to turn the key and with the key turned grab the seat at the rear and work it back and forth until it slides back about a half inch. Then I can release the key and work the seat until it slides free. It's a bitch but my seat has always been that way!

Do you have the stock seat or an aftermarket (Corbin or Sargent?) I've never had a problem with either my stock or Sargent seat even with the rear cowl on the bike. Once the rear latch is released and you can lift the rear of the seat, you should be able to let go of the key and slide the seat off. Once it's off i would look for a wire or something binding under where the seat comes in contact with the bike. Something just doesn't sound right. the seat should come off in just a few seconds every time.

Ok, I'm feeling a little sheepish. I turned the key to undo the latch while lifting the tail-end of the seat. The seat just popped right off--like this is the way you're suppose to remove it. In fact, I did it several times and it got easier each time. Thank you very much for the suggestions.
