Boy sure was cold commuting to work this morning,
    on my VFR.

It was only -3 celcius here in Montreal, but at least it is sunny.
I had to break out the long johns this morning.
    Ha! Ha!

I am hoping to beat my record this year in terms of how long
I can ride before the snow comes.
My best record to date was back in 2001 in Vancouver I rode
on Christmas day Dec.25th and I started again on Feb. 14th on
    Valentine's Day.

Here on the East coast, my best record is I rode until Nov.15th
and then started over again March 24th.

I hope to beat that record this year.

I believe there is a club in the USA and a website of riders who ride year round in some of the coldest states in the US.
I believe they are called Rounders, not sure.

How about you guys, how many of you guys ride year round?

    Well, Happy riding folks!

    Wish me good luck!

    Cheers!

Time to hook up the Widders!

Mate - gets down about to 15 deg C in winter (60 def F)

I think may have to pack the bike up for summer, It might get too hot to ride, 45 deg C (115 degF) may be too much for me in summer.

I try to ride as much as possible here too. I'm riding in to work today, should be nice on the way in (50 F) but may be a bit cool on the way home (38). I don't mind the cold but any chance of ice gets me worried.

I'm still riding, but it isn't that bad here. My coldest trip to work was 32 degrees the other morning, but after I got over the small mountains between here and work it was up to 40 degrees F. The evenings dont get too cold until late usually. Days it gets warm enough to ride every day.

I ride all year long, i guess i'm lucky i live in Arizona. In the winter its mid 20's to mid 30's F in the morning and warms up to 60 F or so. The summers are a little warmer the hottest i rode in so far was 118 - 120 F. As long as your moving its not that bad, but when you stop at lights you really feel the heat. I always ride with my gear on.

It is getting a bit chilly here in Jersey, 32 F was the lowest this year. I had the Widder vest cranked up to max and actually felt warm but I was enjoying it too much to turn it down. I ride in nearly every day about 30 miles one way. Afternoons are excellent! Tee shirt, vest, plugged in but turned off, and Joe Rocket top and bottom. On those extended rides home, I just turn on the vest as the temp drops...

All year rider here as well.

Some winter mornings the temp drops to 0 degrees C, i've only seen snow once in my area & that was nearly 20 years ago. Not unusual to get frosts though.

I hate summer. Heat & humidity get me every time.

    Coldest ride so far!

It was -6 (22F) this morning, coldest ride so far into work
    this year.
I just hope it doesn't snow while I am at work, would make for an
    interesting ride back home.
    Ha! Ha!

    Cheers!

It isn't the cold that fears me, I can do the 'stitch, electric vest, polar tech, etc. and stay pretty toasty. For me it is the fear of once it goes below about 40, I fear hitting a small patch of ice or snow. I don't need that kind of excitment in my rides anymore -- having done it previously on multiple occassions.

I saw 44F on the VFR temp gauge on the way to work on Wed.

and yes I know that 32F, or 0C is the freezing temp, but when you start seeing the general temp at about 36-40F, you have to worry about shady spots that are a little cooler and such

My coldest to date was 14F, all over a girl no less. I rode down to see her in Madison, WI on a nice 50-60 degree fall day. Ended up spending the night, woke up @ 5am to 14F & snow flurries. I rode from Madison to Wausau, WI where I had to be @ work(2.5 -3 hr ride all interstate). I got to work managed to get the kick stand down & fell off the bike cause I couldn't bend my knees.

Yeah, my coldest ever, was also over a girl, but not mine!

Was living in CT at the time. My best friend had a fight with his girlfriend. She was at school in Syracuse NY. He desperatly wanted to go see her over the weekend, but didn't have a car and taking the bus back and forth was going to eat up nearly the whole weekend, plus suck! This was Thursday night, we had been having a real mild winter. Cold but nice. He took my car to Syracuse, and I got his bike to go to class and work. Friday was much colder. Friday night I came out of work to find a dusting of snow on the seat. ;-( Don't know the temp, but it was friggn' cold. Just a fashion leather jacket, sneakers, khakis, work gloves and a half helmet (albeit with ear flaps). Frooze my @$$ off! Oh, and a bandanna on my face.

Man that was cold. My legs, my hands, the twins. Argghhh.

But he had done a lot for me, and I later bought that bike from him (and even later, sold it back to him), and it was my first motorcycle....

Ahh to be like 19 or 20 and indestructable again......

Once, when I was back home in New Zealand, I was travelling over Arthurs Pass, on my old VFR700, it was a fine sunny day, probably 10 degc, and I came around a corner, and next thing I know im on ice. It was a reasonably steep downhill, the section of road was in the shade. My wife at the time was was on the back. I gently applied the front and rear brakes and had to release one or the other when it started to slip on either wheel. It took me a long time to eventually stop, and I ended up on the wrong side of the road in the gravel edging. The Pillion wondered what the hell I was doing. She got off the bike and nearly ended up on her arse - the road was that slippery. Probably the best riding ive ever done to get myself out of a tricky situation.
And very very lucky I didnt dump her - er the bike that is.

I'll ride in subfreezing temps, if it's dry and has been dry long enough that the roads have had time to lose their ice. Until the ground freezes, I'll ride in the wet if the air temp is above freezing. But from November until March I have learned to avoid going so far from home, that I can't get home before dark.

My electrics will keep me warm. The limiting factor is the road surface. If I'm going to travel over ice, I want more than two wheels under me.

    I don't have a car
I haven't ridden a vfr in the snow yet ,but i will . I know that the light weight of my 600 saved me on ice a couple times . if it is realy bad I will ride an aprilli sr 50 diteck scooter . it has no problem in 4to 6 inches of snow .it is the ice that is the problem .

    Over 500kms in the cold!

One cold weekend ride, over 500kms!

I left for Ottawa from Montreal, Friday after work around 4:00 P.M.
By 5:00 P.M. it was already dark and freezing!
My fingers and toes were almost frozen off!

At least I did not get any rain or snow.

Saturday rained all day, so no riding for me.
But then Sunday was clear but cold and cloudy, but it was not enough
to stop me from riding to my buddy's place in Barrhaven to watch
the last MotoGP race on his big screen TV.
Which he downloaded and burned unto a DVD.

Then Monday, I headed back home to Montreal.
Again I was lucky no rain or snow.
It wasn't too bad when I first left Gatineau at 2:30 P.M.
I took the 148 east at Buckingham to Hawkesbury, I even had a bit of sunshine
to go along with the great scenery.
There wasn't much traffic, so I had the road to myself but it still was really cold.
I stopped at the Tim's in Hawkesbury for a quick coffee.

But then by 4:30 P.M. it got dark as usual and even colder, once again the temperature
dropped like an anchor off a ship into water!
    Ha! Ha!

Needless to say when I got home I cranked the heat up to 20 and made myself some hot soup.

I can tell you I certainly will not do this kind of ride again this late in the year,
I am just getting too old for this kind of weather.
    Oh, my poor old bones!
    Ha! Ha!

    :(
