Well, I finally got the old VFR running. It was a total teardown and rebuild. A little history here but... I got this particular vfr-750F in 1987 when I was stationed in Japan. The thing is, this bike was not even sold in Japan, so I had to buy it new from the military exchange on base that sold bikes and have it shipped to Japan. So I got it about 11 months later and I was racing CBR-400's and VFR-400's at the time. So when I put the VFR on the track it was unlike anything out there. Everybody was racing CB-750's so there was no comparison in 87 and 88. Shipped the bike back to the U.S. with me when I got stationed in California and raced it there till 90 when I got out of the Marines. Moved to Wisconsn and still raced the VFR and another one I got well into the 90's when I started racing..please forgive me, Ducati..there, I said it, Ducati. Well anyway, I put a ram air system on it, overbore, gusseted swingarms..the works and it was till a fast bike, but like an idiot, I sold it and I always regreted it. Well I finally found it. The gent I sold it to wadded it before turn one at blackhawk farms raceway. Anyway the fiberglass tank ground down so there was a fire. Well now as I'm tearing it apart my shop vac must have 2 or 3 pounds of spent fire extinguisher material in it. I had to fab a GP style can for the exhaust and do a lot of re-wiring, new pistons, radiator, water pump but the tranny was still tight. Got it all back together, fabricated some brackets and fired it up and I was 20 years younger. Just gotta get some race body work, new skins, get it on the dyno and it should be a fun track day bike. Took a bunch of pictures of the re-build and did a phone video of the start up which I will post soon. For you first generation guys out there, there really was nothing like the was there? I did a CBR-1000 wheel conversion fron Cobalt racing so I can run good rubber and my old leathers still fit!...I feel like a kid today. Thanks for the web site!

Glad to hear it man. Get them pics up... we wanna see em. You might look at redoing the suspension a bit if you are going to track her. Jamie Daugherty here on the forums is the man you want to speak with on the subject. He's the resident 1st/2nd gen guru.

Will do guysl problem is, I took the photos and the vid off my g1 phone and I have to transfer it to my wife's laptop and I will get the pics out tonight of tomorrow. I had the rear shock rebuilt by my buddy at Fox, he worked on showa too. New bushings and bolts in the pivot points too. I'm too old to be cheap. Thanks for the encouragemnt fellas. My loyalties are split, I ride Ducati street bikes but the VFR is the most predictablee and consistant engine I have raced. No powerband snap when leaning and oh sssoooo smooth. Hope you guys understand my dilemma..but my VFR is like your first love and always will be. Thanks fellers.

Sorry about the quality of the pics and for some reason the start up video would not take. I'm going to buy an actual digital camera to doc. The rest of the rebuild. Hope you guys understand.....

Hey, thanks for the feedback. It was a pain in the whoo-ha but I think when it's all finished it will be worth it. And again, I'm sorry about the very poor quality, but I did get a nice new video recorder so when I start puting it all back together and get it on the track, you guys can go along for a lap or two. A nice site site you guys have here.
