Hey I decided to repaint my bike and I removed the fuel tank. When I finished painting it I went to put the tank back on and I bolted in what I assume is the fuel pump assembly (Im a car guy). I figured that bolting it down and tightening it up would seal it to the tank but i figured wrong and i spilled gas everywhere. the gasket is undamaged so im thinking i just broke the factory seal and I need to use sealant to seal it. Any ideas guys?
get a new gasket... you may be able to seal it temporarily with some sealent but if it leaks it will be right over the motor and exaust and could easly start a fire. Not the place to skimp on $10. Be sure not to over tighten the nuts that secure the pump, the studs are tack welded to the tank and if you break one off you will have to have a new one welded on.
