Figured its been a little quite around here, and just wondering what are you going to do to your first generation VF/VFR while it sits for the winter.
Me I'm torn about selling it or keeping it. But i'm like 1/2 way through w/ it and would like to see it to the end. (if their is a end),so either way its downstairs and I just painted/replaced the headlight bracket, i want to finsh w/ the red stripe on the fairngs, put new fuel tank on, and continue cleaning.
So far I have had over probley 100 hours on her just cleaning, fiberglassing, fixing, ect.
I have put on F1's, new o-ring chain, Battery, clip ons, and a few thing to get it to run right. I have added a few pictures, just things throught the way

My plans for the winter are to spend some weekends teaching skiing to keep me from getting any heftier than I already am. LOL then the rest of the time I hope to spend getting my 84 1000F in tip top shape to sell in the spring. I has only 1,600 miles on it and really needs to go to a home where it can be enjoyed as I spend all my riding time on the VFR and I hate to have a bike just sit around. The money I get from selling it will go right to my retirement account so I can hopefully avoid spending my retirement as a greeter at Wal-Mart.

I am also torn between keep my bike or buying another. I'd really like a VFR750 or 800

But until I decide, this winter I'll do the finishing touches on my F1 rear wheel and CBR rear shock.

I have a new tank going on my bike but I need to get the inside cleaned and coated first.

Remove the front wheel and have it powdercoated and put some new rubber on it.

Remove the front forks and install some that have fresh seals and oil in 'em.

I also need to put on a new sprocket set. 16/41 and a new chain.

reading all that makes me sleepy.

I had been planning on doing an F4i front end swap with a brake de-linking this winter, as well as powdercoat the wheels. Some unfortunate financial changes have made me scale back and do some things myself. I'm still going to get the shock resprung and put in .95 springs, which should help handling quite a bit even without Gold Valves and a shock rebuild.
The rest of my winter mods will be low buck. I already have all the parts, so it's just time and paint/supplies for additional cost.
-GSXR mirrors, lobstenders, and de-dumbo'ing. I have a spare rashed nose that I'll try doing paint & bodywork on myself. If I really screw it up, I still have the good fairing to use.
-Painting the frame black, also powdercoating the pegs, repaint headers, etc
    -Radar's sliders

I'm also restoring an old Raleigh bicycle with my son, which has been a pretty fun project so far. I wanted to do a Honda 50 with him over the winter, but this was free and still gives him a taste of restoration, de-rusting, painting, etc. Plus he's stoked about riding something he painted and built up himself to school in the spring.
We have the paint done and curing, working on mechanical stuff now (I think those 3 speed hubs have more moving parts than the 50!)

    1.) De-PAIRing
2.) Fork oil and seal change
3.) New Michelin Pilot Power 2CT front tire
    4.) Polishing cast aluminum bits
5.) Fabbing up a K&N air filter (have a panel filter from a car, going to "adapt" it to the VFR). Pics to follow.

Currently the bike has been sleeping under cover with the battery pulled out. Haven't gotten up to going out in the garage to work when it's -10.

Although, recently I've performed a few minor mods to both my '06 VFR and my 1198, mostly my plans this winter are to ride in this great year round weather in SoCal. It's raining today, and probably will for the next 4-6 days so I really lit it up on the Duke (ducati) last night. My girl got off a few hours early so we went out for dinner and then I hit Malibu. From 8:52pm till 12:46am, (time from driveway and back) I rode PCH, Mulholland Hwy., Malibu Cyn., Latigo, Las Virgines, Stunt Rd. Tuna Cyn., Topanga Blvd. and Topanga Hwy., not to mention all the little .5mi to 3.75mi. stints along the way in order to connect this glorious loop. Sorry, its was night, pics weren't worth a $h!t.

In a few days when the weather breaks just enough to not have to run the big heater in the garage at full blast, it'll be time to head down there and start some of this short list.

Replace all fairing hardware, some of mine has been repaired a time or two and its time for replacement.

Replace hoses, every now and then I get small leaks of coolant when the temp dips down and have to tighten the clamps, time to replace some hoses.

Remove and inspect chain and sprockets.

Remove and inspect brakes, did this at the start of the season last yr when the Racetech parts went in the front, time to do it again, replace caliper bolts with new ones.

Air filter and general clean up.

Im sorry, I just checked and you were asking about 1st and 2nd gens heehee, we hijacked yer thread doooood
