I recently picked this 98 up and it's in great shape. The only thing was a garage fall over on the left side that scuffed and scratched up the fairing and a couple of places were the previous owner tried to touch up on the front fairing.(every time I'd look at it I would focus on those two spots)
Today I went over to Auto zone and they had a six inch wide rally stripe (24 feet for 20 bucks) and gave it a shot.
I'm really surprised how good it looks , I can't complain for 20 bucks!
This will hold me over till next year at this time when I have all the plastic painted.
I was just looking at these pics and for some reason it looks way better in person.

The stripes look good but the palm trees and sun of your pictures is what makes me dream.
I am in mud and snow and still 120 days of it.

    Bike looks great with decals!

Oh the palm trees, the sun and the tiled hip roofs in January – you don’t live in north east do you?

Bike looks good. But id contine the side stripe onto the tail section you wont be able to fit the whole width, but just fit on what would normally go there as the stripe lays out. (if that makes any sense)

See how the decal on mine continues from the side onto the tank....

I tend to agree with Tori. Stripe looks fine. But would be better continued. Seems to continue this stripe would appear to be a natural progression of the stripe. If it does not look good, then take it off.

Was it hard getting the tape on the front wheel? Is it sticky enough to hold?

That looks real good but I think I'm going to quit while I'm ahead. It's just a bitch cutting out around the scooped areas and getting all the bubbles out.

Has anyone ever had a bike painted by Macco or Electrobake,I'm wondering what kind of price you can get from a place like that if they would do a bike.I think Im gonna ask ,there's one next to where I work and the paint jobs look really nice.I had my meanstreak painted at a chopper building shop but I don't want anything this fancy for the VFR,or plan on spending another 1500 or my wife will kill me!

The fast paintjob oufits are franchises. SOS..Prep is 95% of the job. If you are next door, get to know one of the painters. As applicators they are good. "Management" at these franchises do not like to paint anything but cars. Buy your own paint from any of the majors. Even NAPA has great paint. (Martin-Senour)

There are tricks to painting bikes that the car guys just don't know including how to secure a fairing piece to a table so that it doesn't end up on the deck.

Hit your public library for a book on automotive type painting or buy one online. You'll save money just in aspirin costs.

Be warned, Businesses such as Macco can't provide a cheap service unless something suffers. We had a police car painted there a number of years back and from a distance it looked good. Understand, this was a brand new car, and we just wanted to change the colour form Heat Magnet white to another colour. Had they spend the proper time on the prep work, it may have been better, but time is money. And if cost is a concern for you, then these low priced, fast paint shops may be the place for you. And there is nothing wrong with that so long as you are not expecting a $1500.00 paint job for $800.00. It is your bike and your money. So it is your business in the end. We are just happy to give you our views. Just remember though. Mine is the most valuable.
