    Hello everyone!!

I am a long standing member of vfrdiscussion.com and thought it's about time I introduced myself.

I've had MANY VFR's, I absolutely love them and for me personally there is no other bike that fits my riding style. I did own a Sprint 1050 for a brief period until it became apparent that although its a great bike, it's not built for the all year all-weather riding that I demand.

I currently own a 05 VTEC but I'm trading her in for this beauty

I have had many issues with my 05, including more than one cut out at night (pretty scary especially with pillion) but I'm not the biggest fan of the VTEC system either but I will tread carefully on that one.

Anyway I can't wait to pick her up hopefully sometime very near to Christmas next week.

    Safe riding!
    Steve

beee-u-tiful bike ya got there! i had an '04, sold it after 34k utterly reliable miles. wanted another sport-tourer so there was no question as to which bike to get. having tested and ridden an '01 before getting the '04, i knew that i had to have a 5th gen. i bought my '00 yellow 2 months ago on ebay.

welcome to the forum and enjoy your vfr !!

    Steve,

Welcome. Smart move to the 5th gen, but remember they do have R/R problems.

    Otherwise, enjoy the gear-driven-cams symphony.

Love the color of your bike. Wish we had that choice here.

Do they have different headlights in the UK or is that a clear cover over the lens?

Thanks guys for the warm welcome

It's not as uncommon to go from a 6th to a 5th gen as you might think, a number of people have done so over the years.

I do love the colour, she looks even better in the flesh so to speak. I'm not sure what the clear lens is for but it's definitely some kind of addon and not something that all UK VFR's have. I'll have to check that one out.

    Cheers!
    Steve

Thanks Bob, am I right in thinking the 00-01's have sorted this issue?

Well last shot of my 03 as I head out to pick up my new bike.. (she looks better than she rides) I shall miss her.. well only a bit

I challenging ride, through freezing fog, icy patches and snow

but I made it and because of the tough weather I only took one shot on the way back at the only petrol station I could find free from ice

She didn't miss a beat all the way home

    Steve,

No the 00-01s have the same problem, as far as I know. The big difference between the '98-'99 models and

the '00-'01 models is that the '98-'99 bikes do not have catalytic converters in the exhaust system.

BTW, you are now an official member of the elite '98/'99th Squadron.

    Welcome aboard ~

Welcome aboard Steve, Love that color-I don't see that here in Los Angeles. How do you like the 5th gen compared to your 6th gen?

    Thanks Bob and cebu.

    cebu,

Since riding my new VFR home after spending a good 2 hours getting there on the VTEC...

This thing seems to leap forward more at 6000rpm, kinda like what the 6th gens feel like after the rude burp above 7k - My 5th gen feels like it has a bit more useable power with a creamy smooth bottom-top power curve.

The gear driven Cams are not so intrusive as I imagined at all, in fact, yea.. I do like that sound a lot

The sound it makes as you go past 5500rpm, man it howls!! Growling at you in a different sort of way than the newer model, I'm not saying it's better but just a different sound (and very soul stirring)

I also like the dash better on my new one, it somehow feels more luxurious and the engine feels like it's the new model, not the other way around.

funny huh, Honda should of listened to that age-old saying 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

''I think the factory put digital speedos on the 6th generation so that the owners could have something to brag about over the 5th''

ha perhaps but whether it's easier to read or not I actually do prefer to see the needle shoot up when accelerating, I never go any more than 130 anyway and when riding back I found the transition from digitial to anologue didn't feel odd at all.

I think the 2 things I will miss the most from my 6th gen is the looks and the slightly more frantic sportier character, but I'm very happy to trade that in for all the delights of the 5th gen motor :)

    Safe riding all!!

Nice find. I too like the color. It's true that most people don't go from a 6th to a 5th. I went from a 5th to a 6th. I loved the gear driven cams of the 5th and wish I still had them. On the 6th, I love the under seat exhaust, sharper looks and handling. I wish I had kept both. Welcome to the forum.
