Ok...So this is not a VFR but it's still a honda. Anyhow I lost the key on my 1985 honda elite scooter. Its a massive 150cc and goes like stink...actually its not bad and dead realiable. Any ideas how I can crack the steering lock and remove the ignition? OR should I call a locksmith to have a key made? Can I just crack the ignition with a screwdriver? Let me know regards,
Not sure about where your locks are at but if you can get the ignition off or the helmet lock off there is a key code stamped on the back of the lock in small lettering. A locksmith or Honda dealership can make a key with that code.
Possible if the locksmith will do it. Some locksmiths are now requiring some show of paperwork even to cut a spare key.
Man who loose key to house get no newkey....think about it. You can take a nice sized drill bit to the key slot and use your universal screw driver to start it from then on.
On a little ninja I bought, I got a new set with ignition and seat lock And gas cap on eBay for about 30 I think. It worked fine.
A good locksmith can run a 'tracer' into your key lock and cut a blank based on that. It IS a bit extra money but probably cheaper and easier than everything but SLOVFR's suggestion.
This is pretty easy to do, but it will take some work. You need to remove your ignition switch and take it to the dealership. There are numbers stamped on it that the dealer can use to code a new key for it. They need the whole switch (not just the numbers) for two reasons 1) to make sure the new key works 2) in an effort to prevent someone from stealing a bike by having them make a key for it. I've got several bikes with only key and I don't sweat it too much because I know it's possible to get another one made.
I had my Goldwing keys made for me at Toronto's cycle world. $20.00 no problem. Hay Jamie like the new avatar. Merry Chrismas.
