can I test the carbs b4 I reinstall?

    Hi all, I've got my carbs all cleaned out, and put back together, but want to know if they'll hold fuel before I put them back onto the boots & reinstall, get the bike running again, and then find out one or more leak or need more work. Is there a way I can funnel some gas into them while they're on my work bench to see if they hold gas without leaking? I know this won't be any sort of test for the jets, but I simply want to know if I have any leaks...? Thanks

    Yes, just place fuel tank above level of carbs on or under your bench, hook up fuel line and start fuel flow. You should wait at least 15 minutes to asses leakage, and carbs need to be at their working angle with airbox surface level.

    Ok, that makes sense. Does it have to be the fuel tank? My fuel tank is out of commission for now... Can I use a container hooked up to a tube that would pour into a funnel attached to the fuel line on the carbs? This would be real easy for me to set up and control the flow if it were to leak. Or do I need to use the bike's fuel tank for some mechanical reason I don't know?!

    Tank is not required. You can use any sort of delivery tank. I have what I call an IV bottle with fuel line coming out of it for just that purpose and for running a bike without the tank fitted. It helps if there is a shut off at the container so you can stop fuel flow if necessary. Good luck!

    You can allso put clear lines on the drains and open the drains to see what the float levels are.

    I use captb's method also, trouble is.......there are no factory specifications for externally measured fuel heights.. you can check consistancy between carbs, however.

    The carb set must be ABSOLUTELY level side-to-side and front-to-back for meaningful readings.
