2008 (first/only accident in 11 years of riding). Broken right ankle (1 metal plate & 6 screws). Felony hit & run (the other guy ran a stop sign, hit & ran - I took a ride to the ER!) But, I didn't go down...

1976, I am running late for work (16 years old) and decide to pass a paper truck on a curve. I am doing about 55 MPH and encounter a station wagon..... POW! Head on collision, and I get up without a scratch!

2004, I am sitting on a HD Softail at a four way intersection (red light) and while sitting there, watching the traffic crossing the street, I suddenly hear an engine reving.....POW! I get hit by a Chevrolet Trail Blazer. The driver talking on the phone had no idea the light ahead was RED!

That accident resulted in my left knee requiring ACL reconstruction. I consider myself VERY LUCKY!

All of mine came from racing Motocross and Hare Scramble from the late 60's until 4 years ago. That is until this summer. I counted broken bones I have had over the years and the count stopped at 21, the worst of them being ribs and a broken femur in my left leg. This past summer June 13th to be exact, I guess that is not really summer yet, on my way to my denominations annual conference, ( United Methodist), in Grove City Pa. I struck a very large buck at 6:30 AM. . The next thing I remember is talking to some very nice people I did not know as they put me on a helicoptor for a $13,000.00 ride to Presbeterian University hospital in Pittsburgh. No in-flight movie, no meal, nofun. Anyway, I woke up about 3 weeks later with a few new scars, one on my right wrist from a snapped wrist bone 7 screws and 2 plates and one up my belly from the removal of 3 feet of my intestines. Over all, I am still some what recovering but in pretty good shape considering. The buck ----not so much, my prized 2000 Triumph Daytona 955i about the same fate as the deer. As far as broken bones go the wrist, although not as painful as the leg, is by far the most difficult to recover from. wilburj

Ok, I've never tried cataloging it, but here goes:

    Age 6:

Slid my Indian 50 under a pine tree when the tires hit the needles. - bruised ego
My first ramp collapsed and I hit the cinder block and fell off the bike - more ego bruising (and better ramp building skills)

    Age 7:
Same bike, many get offs and crashes into miscelaneous objects unfortunate to be in my path
Tailpipe burns R leg when riding cousin and bike fell on us and he couldn't get off fast enough so bike got held against my leg

    Age 8 or 9:
New bike Honda XL 90 - learning to clutch
Along with the discovery of clutching a motorcycle, I discovered wheelies.
Numerous get offs in the form of falling off a wheelie, turning during a wheelie, etc.
Ran into a tree more than once.

    Age 10:
More learning, occasionally wore a helmet but mostly not.

Age 10:ran into a good deal on a KE100 from Kawasaki. Bike was too big, but learned that I could take off from a cinder block then stop on it or catch myself if I totally stopped then let the bike lean over for me to touch. Many falls practicing this.

Age 12: Lots of slide outs on sandy road visiting friend who lived a few miles away. No major injury. Still no helmet. Had one, just didn't like it.

    Teens:
Riding across barpit at max speed front end planted in gumbo, over the handle bars and I planted in gumbo to my waist. Required truck to pull bike out.
One week later, back to barpit with 3 wheeler, rode all over it with no trouble, then rode wheelie about 25 ft and front end came down hard enough to plan into gumbo again. Required truck again. No one ever accused me of learning easy. no injury

Riding on gravel roads behind my cousin on 3 wheeler in wedge formation to avoid dust in eyes. I was to the left and back from her. She decided to turn around and went left to stop and then turn around to the right. I clipped her back tire, did a superman over the handlebars into a ditch about 6 ft deep while my bike did it's own thing. This was the last of any street legal gear on the KE. probably a little concussion but rode home anyway

    14 or 15: New bike KDX 175
Another 2 stroke, and finally one with some balls.
Armor all to the seat - hit powerband, slid back but held bars ala superman ran into ditch then up side and bike when up (still holding) and landed on side in ditch (still holding) - no injury.
More get offs and flips learning wheelies on new bike.
Learned how to jump occasionally as far as 50-60 ft still no helmet.
Forgot rear brakes were getting weak and went balls out at a sandpile about 12-15 ft tall (trying to fake out my cousin) remembered too late, hit the hill but had chopped throttle, big time nose dive, rode on front wheelie for a few feet in full lean, head nearly touching back fender, then went over the bars, bike caught my feet in the handlebars, drove my face into the sand and landed on me with me folded up. No injury but I did eat some sand still no helmet

Age 18-19 New bike KX 250
Got a helmet that I liked and wore it every time I rode. A few wrecks but nothing major.

Early 20s New bike XJ600 Yamaha Seca 2
    no accidents

    New bike FZR 600
low side laydown to avoid dump truck that turned in front of me no signal. Road rash to wrist and scuffed leather jacket.

    2000s
Yamaha YZ450f - topped big crest at Pozo ORV area going a little hot and caught ruts, made it almost halfway before being tossed over the bars and over a cliff. Only feel 15 or 20 ft before stopping. able to ride bike crossways on hill to get to trail again. A little bruised but nothing major.

A few minor crashes on YZ with no real injury.

    VFR
low side left on Vineyard Rd New Years 2006 bike busted worse than me. Road rash right wrist where hand was trapped under bike and cuff of glove peeled back. Ground to bone, but only cause bone is so close under the skin right there.

Low side northern cali from pea gravel on back side of 180 curve. A little bruising and wrist soreness.

high side nov 2009 - right shoulder dislocation and soft tissue damage and light concussion

    -----------------------------
I'm sure I have left lots out, but those are some of the ones that stand out. Also, I have crashed bicycles many many times. No broken bones AFAIK but I may have cracked some here and there. I just dont go to the doctor much. I'm sure I have had several concussions (can't remember, though )

    Broken but still running

Mini bikes and 5 years MX = many offs, no broken bones.
Oct. 2007, ST1300 - rear ended Buick at 40 mph while distracted by talking wife. Me, fractured pelvis 2 places, 6 ribs ( L). wrist (L). Her, 5 ribs, left elbow, concusion.
July, 2009 ST1100 - Lost both ends in road debris 100 feet from stop sign (20 mph). Broken shoulder blade (R), 6 ribs. Still getting PT on shoulder.
VFR-nothing. Guess I like lighter bikes.

I came down with a severe case of Blue Balls when I was away from home for three weeks on a motorcycle trip. It was an easy cure, though. I handled it myself.
