    Hey all,

Looking to get a 5th gen. VFR in the near future and would like to find out what in particular I should be looking for when doing a pre-buy inspection? No matter what I will be taking the bike to a mechanic who is very familiar with these bikes (sidebar - any recommendations for a great VFR mech. in the Bay Area?) but I would like to tap into the knowledge base of this board to see if there were any things which would make you immediately walk away or be wary about a particular bike.

    Thanks all,
    Thelankyone

P.S. Yes, I did try using the search funtion and wasn't able to get a pre-purchase list.

    look to regulator/rectifier

I suggest you take a look to the regulator/rectifier (R/R), because it is a common fail in honda's bikes, check if the 3 yellow wires are too hot and the plastic conector is ok not burned.

Where's the location of these items on the bike?

I'm soon going to be in the 5th Gen market and will keep this in mind when looking at potential purchaces.

Obviously you'd like to know if the bike's been down and if so how hard.

Check handlebar ends for flattening or gouges and look at clutch cover on right and generator cover at left for marring, scratches. Check bodywork for looseness or scuffs.

Yeah, I knew the obvious stuff like that. I didn't quote the reply above mine and should have. What I was refereing to was the R/R componant locations.
