Any ideas what would be causing this?

The bike intermittently throws a TPS FI error code(8 flashes). This mainly happens on corrugated roads at temps above 35C. I've ridden the same roads on a 15C night no error light. But it also throws the error in heavy fog.

Fault finding done so far is checking the wiring from tps connector to the ecu. Resistances are about right, connectors are all clean. I've gone through and moved the wiring around abit to check for an intermittent short.

I'm only getting 4.15V at the sensor the shop manual is saying I should have 4.75-5.25.

any ideas what to check from this point?

    Thanks

Hmmmmm...TPS = throttle position sensor I am ASSuming. If everything has checked out at the correct voltages, then I would probably start looking at the ECM/PCM to see if those connections have any corrosion or are damaged. I am pulling this stuff out of my :ass: but it is possible if you check all else that your ECM or TPS could be intermittently failing.

.....OR maybe you forgot to put the cover letter on your TPS report....didn't you get the memo???

    Thanks.

 my bad. Yes, TPS was refering to throttle position sensor.

Have had similar phantom codes like that in the past on other bikes! Ok it only happens when its hot yea? Gotta be when heat builds up it messes with the electrics in the tps. Could be 2 causes-1. tps is on its way to the man in the sky or 2 something has changed from oem design of bike! Are the rubber washers on the tank present to help with venting? Is there anything routed incorrectly under the tank?

    Part 2

Ok put the bike back together again over the weekend, went to start it and computer threw 3 errors without starting. The 3 sensors getting power from the same pins on the ecm connector. Checked the female side pins sure enough they were bent. Looks like previous owner was a backyard hack! Flexed the female pins back into place, very carefully. The bike then developed an excellent crisp exhaust note.

Bike ran fine for about 700Kms, then I got caught in a severe storm on the way to work yesterday. Bike kept going, suprisingly. On the way home it threw a speed sensor error. Went to go to work today and bike developed a pretty strong misfire. Brought up both of the FI error codes again. Got home popped the plug leads off and checked for moisture. no4 plug lead wasn't properly seated made contact with the plug but didn't seal. Restarted it and all of the error codes all disappeared.

Looks like I'll have to go over the entire bike and fix previous owner's bodgy work to properly fix these issues

Uhhh...you're getting' to know your bike pretty good by now. Sucks when ham handed people dig around in sensitive connections.

Sounds like you're doing a great job troubleshooting. Most people assume the component is bad when most times the problem is a connection somewhere. Don't know if this helps but here in the US Honda has a 'pin fit' tool...not too expensive. Basically a key ring with the common male connector terminals used. Simply insert the tool in the upside down position, and if the connector holds the tool, the pin fit is acceptable. If the tool falls out, the connection is loose enough to be a potential problem.

Ok problem turned out to be loose pins on the ecm connector & a broken wire on the cam pulse sensor pickup wire near the ecm connector & an intermittent short in the 3 yellow ac leads from the alternator. Alternator wires were rubbing on the edge of the rear fairing at the fart vent, only a minor fire. All for want of 4 scrivets to secure the ecm in it's cover and a few cable ties to tidy up the wiring for the reg/rec fix.

Thanks all for the help. Much appreciated
