A few months back I had some issues with my fuel tank. Specifically, there was a strong smell of petrol when the tank was full and this got worse when I found a small puddle of fuel under the bike! During the process of removing the tank and draining it, I saw something move inside the tank and managed to remove it. It was a piece of cheesecloth the same size as that in the picture attached! Goodness knows when that was put inside, and it must have done some miles... I had the tank lined with "Creem" which is a slow setting resin mixture. The tank is cleaned out with solvents, then this is poured inside the clean tank and rolled about to coat the insides. That is why the inside looks white. A few months later and the issue appears to be sorted!
I just used Kreem in my tank. I had TONS of rust in it and can only HOPE that I have good results as you have. Nice to know that it works or did for you anyway.
