Hello everyone. I've been lurking here for a while, but finally decided to post.

Not quite sure what to write so we'll go with the story that led me here.

I've ridden and been around all sorts of motorcycles my whole life starting when I was little with dirtbikes and 3-wheeelers. Fast forward to high school and after... I bought an 85 Yamaha Maxim-X and LOVED it but had to sell it when I joined the USAF, a motorcycle just wouldn't haul all my junk around. I went several years bikeless :frown: but never lost the itch. Fast forward to about a year ago I had a few extra hundred bucks laying aroudn and bought a little commuter when gas prices were completely out of hand, it was a 1980 Honda CM400 and it was great but only added to my itch to get a real bike.

Anyway while at work one day me and a buddy were talking about bikes (He has a CBR1100xx). I told him what I liked and features that interested me. Not having researched a 'real' bike lately I told him I was looking for something in the sportbike arena, but one that wouldn't kill my back, A single sided swingarm, underseat exaust. I told him that I really did't want a 600, but felt a bit intimidated by the 1000cc bikes. I also told him I'm lookign for one I could double up on with my wife when we got the urge. He smiled and said go look at the interceptors. From I checked them out and from the moment I saw them I was hooked.

Currently I'm about to wrap up a deployment in Iraq (Air national guard now), and planning on starting to look for a good used 6th gen, though I wouldn't be opposed to a good 5th gen if it came around.

Anyway, that's my story so far. I hope to have more of a footprint on the site coming up.

    Junyr

Thats a great first post, I hope you become a member.
Thanks for the service to our country.

Also that 5/6 gen is an excellant choice I think, very sporty with plenty of tour for the 2 up riding.

    Welcome.

Welcome aboard. Here are a couple things that may or may not interest you about the 5th and 6th generation of the VFR...

    5th gen ---------------------------------6th gen
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
gear driven cams------------------- cam chain tensioners
    linked brakes------------------------- linked brakes
    FI ----------------------------------------- FI
    non VTEC ----------------------------- VTEC
    no ABS option -----------------------ABS option
no factory hard bags -------------- factory hard bag option
less parts avail ---------------------- more parts avail
maybe a tad sportier ------------- maybe a tad more touring but still very sporty
slightly cheaper---------------------- slightly higher priced but more color options
looks like a bad mofo-------------- looks like a mean bitch

Glad you decided to join in the fun by posting up here!

Sounds like a VFR would be ideal for you. There are many great 5th and 6th gen. VFRs available, tho depending on where you live you may have to either travel a bit to pick up the bike, or have it shipped to you. Most are well-cared for, so you should have few worries about buying a used VFR.

Stay safe and a huge thanks for your service to our country!

Thanks for that, I've been arguing this point for way too long now. I guess a picture is worth a thousand words.

Thanks for the reception and though I can't see that picture I can only assume it's the one of the red Gen 6 peg scraping a left turn with hard bags. That's been my desktop backgroudn for quite sometime.

Well I'm still in Iraq with only about a week left and after looking at some home improvment things Ii have to do, it appears that a gen 5 is what I'm going to go with due to the cheaper prices.

I have to admit though when I found I wouldn't be able to spend what I thought I would on a used bike I took a step back from the VFR and looked around at other bikes for little bit and got really torn between the superhawk and the 5th gen VFR. After making a pro/con list for the SH/VFR I can only come to the conclusion that the VFR will be my the first of the two I'll buy. The SH will come in time, but what a pair of bikes to have in the garage...

Anyway, thanks again for the warm reception and I'll be lurking around most likely until I get back and make my purchase!

Great forum and people Keep it up.
