This may be a stupid question, but the metal below where the left rearview mirror seems cracked... in this picture within the red circle I drew, the image is blurry but around where the metal turns from black to grey, there's a crack/seam? Is this normal? There's another slight crack on the opposite side of this part of metal too.

I noticed you have two pics with body "damage" on this site. First the pictures are not that great. I am by far no mechanic. If you can get closer pics or find a way to enhance the pic, posted, then that may help. Other questions that need to be answered... Did you puchase the bike recently or have you had it a while? How old, what Gen is the bike? This is a great site to get answers from and a lot of knowledgeable people here. Good luck.

Just got the bike last week. It's a 1986 vf500f. It was given to me because it's a fixer-upper... while I was happy about the price (free), I am keeping in mind that I will give up on it if it does seem like it'll cost too much to get running. I have to keep realistic about this, I might as well buy a new bike if it costs too much! I took these photos tonight with my phone while working on getting the carb body out so I could clean them out, I will go out again tomorrow with an actual camera!

Sorry forgot to add that when you post with your new pics just do this under one post. (Two birds with one stone.)

Hard to tell- but looks like its just the black paint flaked off at that point or---- the bikes been down on the right side and the base that holds the mirror snapped off and previous owner has molded a mount from putty or similar?
