Here's some pics. The damage is obviously not catastrophic and some of it I'll probably live with for a while...

Both mirrors will have to be replaced as they broke the stalks. The front brake lever is gone, too. The plastic I may or may not be able to make do with. The clutch cover doesn't appear to be leaking so I can probably manage with that for now...

I think Tori spotted a side fairing for me already. The thing that may be the biggest prob is it looks like the fairing stay in the front is pushed back and trying to get those back into shape is a bitch especially on a bike that has such a tight fit/finish as a VFR. It's not like an open fairing style race bike that you can slap it on and not worry if it's a little out.

So my minions, keep an eye on ebay for these little things and we'll have scratch ready to party in no time. Then I'm gonna teach that wore out tire a lesson... Expect a burnout video when I'm done with it, too!

Just an FYI. Doing some research on new OEM fairings and ronayers.com is running $100 less than servicehonda.com for right side and also less than bikebandit.com but not quite as much lower so if anyone else is shopping for oem parts right now, make sure and check ronayers.com before you buy...

Hell, I may just get one of those full fairing sets from ebay. Some of them look pretty decent to me...

Reg, before you buy any fairings........ i've heard thru the "grapevine" that a right side fairing and a set of levers are on their way to you as we type.

    Hey Reg

Just read the story of your high side
    It saddened me a lot
Hope you are felling better soon and can ride
And your sling, it can be tossed
    Your sling can be tossed

Now for Scratch, here’s a thought that I just had
    That Dunlop should be thrown
Instead I got a Bridgestone that’s not too bad
And you can take it home
    You can take it home

Got a hole, needs a patch, it’s an EZ fix
    Then just add some air.
Soon you’ll be riding ‘round & doing tricks.
That’ll end the high side scare
    End the high side scare.

hope you are feeling better soon, dood.
lemme know if U want the tire.....

It's okay for now Bob. It's gonna be a bit before I can ride again. I did some fairing removal and damage assessment today... Here's the latest:

As you can see, every mount for my gauge cluster is broken. Also, two of the mounts for the headlight are broken. I am almost at that point where you want to cut your losses. Unfortunately for me, I get attached to inanimate objects like Scratch. She only has a little over 70000 miles so I think shes got more life left. I mean hell she sure as hell got away from me fast for an 11 yr old girl... I don't know if you can tell in the pic, but the fairing stay is pushed back quite a bit. I tried bending it a bit but it was a no go... It bent my biggest screwdriver...

Reg, you cant bend the fairing stay's back. They are just too strong. Even if you do get it to bend, you'll never get it where it needs to be. This you've got to buy either undamaged used, or new. Otherwise everything else will not fit.

Man o man Reg. Are you gonna be in shape for 2010? If not, I think we are all going to have to chip in and rent you a bike for the ride.

it's pretty sad - how light they are when in motion, but picking one up ....uffda.
The fairing stay on my 99 bent back & then broke the boss at the attachment to the frame. i was going about 4 miles an hour at contact. both sides were rashed & broken / tail was ok. instruments looked a lot like yours. i don't have the mechanical skills / experiance / wherewithall to fixit....i sold. let me know if i can help - it would be a good learning experiance. at least i can pull with 2 arms......

Yeah. That's what I was telling terri because the fit on Vfr's is so clean and tidy. I'd never get all those dash cover pieces to mount up. Two headlight mounts are broken, too. I have to figure if I can make it work or not. I think I can plastic weld the gauge mounts well enough to work but who knows.

oh that's no prob. I could take off plastics and lights and run it streetfighter if I had to. I may end up doing that for a little while anyway while looking for that front stay for a good price. It's about 300 new. Everyone keep an eyeball on eBay.

I am crying looking at these pics. Scratch has been such a good and noble beast. I cannot stand to see her in that state.

I wonder if heating the fairing stay and gently coaxing it with many hands would produce better results? Just a thought.

One bad thing about busting up bikes is while looking for used replacement parts, one finds most other folks bust the very same things.

drewl: that last sentence is a tragic truth to alot of things we DIY guys try and fix ourselves. Never impossible, but definatly a tougher challenge.:ninja:

Yeah reg, I am attached to the inanimate objects as well.

Looking at the ebay, and also the craigslist, just in case for ya, I hope alot of us are.

Reg, get with Brian. He's had good results repairing intstrument clusters. They are certainly repairable.

I hate to bring this up but sometimes just getting replacement parts doesn't always fix every problem. Something might "look" straight but be off just enough so a new part won't fit.

    There's always this alternative... **LINK**

Last Christmas I got a used vaccum cleaner for a present. Used only once by my wife when she brought it across my head after she unwrapped it.
