I work for an OEM out here in CA, and there are already higher-ups talking about naming a MIC (motorcyle industry council) award after him. And there is a lot of legwork already just from today, so I suspect it will happen.

I had an elderly neighbor when I lived in santa monica. Her son was a trauma surgeon and was a co-author in the Hurt report. He and Harry medically picked apart every single bike accident victim in LA county together.

Sad day, as an MSF Coach I can vouch Mr. Hurt has had and will continue to have a long impact on how motorcycle crash studies are conducted.

I read yesterday in Sport Rider that the govt has approved doing another motorcycle injury study. And today I hear that Mr Hurt is gone. His name will certainly endure.

Yeah, they "approved" it a few years ago, but they are still about $2 million short. The DOT gave some money with the caveat that it be matched privately. The OEMs didn't step up, so that left the MIC and others, thus the delay. It's just not on the top of anyone's "must do" list right now.
