Dude....I almost Vomited...... I work with a lot of motorcyclests and I'm one of the only 3 that ride a sportbike... I constantly get a lot of ridicule from the massive harley contingent here... I always get the:

    "Is'nt all that gear hot?'
"How can you move in all that stuff"
    "Hey Terminator!"

    and finally my favorite:
"Why do you wear all that crap?"

    My response every single time:
"I'm Allergic to metal brushes..." after the blank look i then say: "You know the wire brushes they use to scrape all the asphault that is imbeded in your skin after you crash with no gear?"

Or I tell them that Murphy was an optimist and I play against him...If I do not wear that gear I will crash..." I would rather wear what I do not nead than not have what I need...

Besides...I like looking like a black and Red Power Ranger Super-Zord!

Regardless of the degree of healing, his skin color will never be "normal" again.

I once fell off of a pedal bike at around 55 mph. i was a foolish kid and got lucky. I broke my collar bone (that was disappointing) and cracked my head, needed 5 staples.

Ill never go without a helmet, i dont even like to go without my gloves. it just doesn't feel comfortable.

Gear all the time because sooner or later your luck will run out.

Hopefully he learned something from this.

even I, the vest advocate, wear gear when puttin' around to test add-ons and such... this guy got lucky that his gray matter wasn't smeared on the sidewalk... But hey, I appreciate posts like this... you never know when some squid will see one of these graphic pics and make the evolution from tentacles to man-feet...

Man guess the dude wanted to prove how hard his head really is. I do not mean to make a joke about someone getting hurt. Hope the dude sees the reason for gear whether you are on a sportbike or crusier. I still wonder why crusiers wear chaps that have no armour and do not cover a very important part of the body. SOmetimes bad things have to happen before some people listen - hope someone learns from that dude's mistake in not wearing the proper gear. lmao!!!

    ouch!

I'm thinking he won't be riding again, at least if he does he will be gearing up.

    One would hope at least.

I was talking to my buddy's GF at work today and she was telling me about their two-up ride last Sunday. I asked her what gear she wears, and she said she doesn't because it's too uncomfortable.

I emailed her a pic of the squid with the fucked face and told her I did not want her to end up like that, or worse. I also gave her a list of what constitutes ATGATT.

I haven't heard back from her yet. She's probably pissed at me. I don't care. It would be wrong not to attempt to educate her, even if she does resent it. Besides, she's not my girlfriend so it's not like I'm going to be cut off!

    Anyway, thanks for the post!

When I was young and immortal I would ride no helmet etc. Now, ATGATT - full gear to go round the block or just down the street. With age and experience comes wisdom, if you are paying attention that is.

Damn...I've been riding since 1984 and have never ridden without a full face helmet, except for about 20 minutes in 1985, when I had locked my helmet in a friend's place and had to get his house key. That squid (and the guy who loaned out the bike) are prime reasons why I can growing up "Surviving the Stupid Years"...

What a moron. And who's the idiot who let that moron ride his R6, esp. without any gear at all?!

I never, ever ride without my full-face lid, even if it's just around the block or to the gas station and back. Riding without a helmet is a legal option here, but I take no chances with my noggin.

My first year or so riding, however, I would sometimes wear lightweight "mechanix" style gloves and a pullover windbreaker while riding on hot days. I even did a few very short rides in just a t-shirt. And until last year I wore sneakers sometimes, esp. during my 10-mile rural commute.

No more. This year even the hottest days saw me in a mesh jacket w/armor, good leather gloves and boots. As the years go by I add more gear, esp. for big rides and trips.

There was a time when I rode in shorts, tank-top and sneakers. Fortunately, I was not made to pay during that time of stupidity. Now no matter the weather, I must have ATGATT or simply can't enjoy the ride...

PS: Kid's face reminded me of when I went down during an ice storm in 91. The front of my full face helmet hit a curb, putting a nasty gash in the shield and helmet instead of my right eye and forehead.
