Ok , first with the first ....
New here . Registered to try and find help . I'm active on other forums , and know about the "try the search feature" thing , but that ain't workin out I ain't got no more patience (I like to play with grammar  )
Now on to the next , it's a 1st gen (84 or 85) . He said it ain't ran in a while . First thing I did was pull the carbs and clean them , though they weren't that dirty to begin with . Got 'em back on (yeah , THAT sucked  . I like my IL4) , and noticed an "extra" hose on the petcock (TWO vacuum  hoses ) . So I put some gas in it and tried to start it anyway . First , the starter stuck . I mean , I turned off the ignition and the starter was still spinning . Had to disconnect the battery . Neat . So I go make a sammich to think about things , and go back out to find a huge puddle of gas spreading under the bike . Looks like the petcock developed a leak  . So .... If someone could enlighten me as to the routing of said vacuum lines (and for sh1ts & giggles , the fuel lines while we're at it) , and maybe point me in the right direction for the sticking starter , I'd sure 'preciate it . Was hoping to be done with this bike this weekend and get it back to him next week .

there should be a vaccum line running from the REAR nipple on the petcock (the middle one is not used) to a nipple located right below the carb on the rear set of cylinders on the same side as the petcock

Ok guys , starter button taken apart and cleaned (that sucked) , primed carbs using a baby snot sucker into the fuel line , little starting fluid , and it fired right up . Looking for a petcock rebuild kit currently . Believe the fuel pump relay may be bad . Thinking about converting it to gravity-fed like I saw elsewhere on this site . Seems it'd simplify things a bit . But then there's no prime setting (hence the snot-sucker priming thing), so I'd have to gut the petcock like I saw elsewhere . That's where we stand . 'Preciate the help thus far .

    Welcome aboard, md.

Glad we could help a little. Good luck with the rest of the project.
Pics would be cool if your friend will allow it.
