The change also included different injectors. AFAIK that it the only other difference. I have the newer injectors with the old ECU, and running stock map it still has the typical harsh VTEC transition. And since it can be eliminated with some tuning with a PC, I'm going to guess that the newer ECU is responsible for the smoother transition on the newer bikes. The RPM change was probably done to smooth out the power curve after the re-tune. That's all just speculation on my part though.

I have given this alot of thought, what do you think about replacing the pin in the vtec mechanism with one that was full length to mechanically run the valve full time? You would have to do all four and have it tuned, but would like to think that would work and the ecu could run vtec circuit and not flag a code as far as I can tell.

That would work too and would be the more permanent solution, but obviously requires tearing the engine apart. At that point I'd just replace the 8 VTEC cam followers with non-VTEC ones, maybe that's what you meant. The wiring change is a lot simpler and very easy to reverse, I'd suggest doing that first and see if it does what you want, the results will be the same either way. You could also just gut the spool valve and leave it hooked up to the ECU.

I have an 07. I installed a PC V and it really smoothed out the transition. Installation was a piece of cake. The PC V is the newest power commander out. I think it works for many different models.
    Cheers

it isn't the electronics that makes this a waste of time.
