Hello folks! Had a little accident about 2 weeks ago, started to lose balance while standing at a turnoff and some gravel under my front tire made the bike tilt just past the point of no return. I wrestled it down as far as it would go, but it still bent the clutch handle into a U shape and scratched the fairing a bit. Could have been much worse though. I wasn't hurt at all.

Anyway, I bought an aftermarket clutch handle and replaced it. The problem I'm having is that when the clutch handle is depressed fully (touching the handle bar along it's length) this handle still won't engage the clutch switch. It depresses the push rod into the Master cylinder, but only pushes the switch to just before the click that would allow me to start the bike in gear.

I can ride the bike and change gears, but I cannot start the bike in gear (which could easily become a problem in traffic situations. I'm going to order an OEM in a day or two unless someone else has a solution or has run into this situation.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

Hmmm something about aftermarket parts, big reason to buy OEM. you know they'll work.. hope you get it figured out.

When I tried to send you a private message, it said that you have your settings to not receive private messages.

    Thread Jacking........ :laser:

Does anyone knows how I can make/adjust the lever closer? I have small hands and I'm always reaching for the clutch and/or brake levers which causes some pain on long rides.

I'm not mechanically inclined so if anyone has pictures to show, it will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Is this a serious question ?

See the wheel on the lever ? Try turning that and see what happens.. ?

I have turned it every other way possible but it didn't help at all. I'm thinking of bending the lever but I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Pressure on the stressed area can snap while riding.

    Ok.

Did the lever move when you turned the wheel ?

If you already have the lever in the closest position then your only options are :
    1) Buy some aftermarket dog-leg type levers (expensive)
    2) Bend the lever slightly (probably best if you heat it first) and have a spare before you try!

I'd be surprised if a clutch lever would break whilst riding anyway - it's not like where you have a large pressure on the lever in use unlike the brake.

    Original Thread issue resolved

Thanks KC!!! You are the man, that handle did the trick perfectly and now that I have the weather to ride in, I'm back in the saddle.

The moral of this story is.... if you can get OEM then get OEM. Aftermarket can suck in a big way.

    Where to ride to today.....
