Just wondering if you guys go through the same thing on a VFR that I see in the CBR600. My f4i has a slight rattle in specific rpm ranges but not even close to what I have heard others do. Next year when it gets serviced for Spring I will do the replacement. Hoping to be riding a new VFR by then... I know after the Gen6 came out and the chains were introduced the gear whine went away but was it replaced by the rattle? If it was is the fix simple and does it happen to most of the bikes like it does on the CBR?

    My Cam gears don't rattle!

I bought a 95 due to the gear driven cams. They howl at 10K+ rpm, but no rattle!

Yes the 6th gen does have the rattling cam chains. Normally the cam chain tensioners/ not the chains need to be replaced between 10,000- 30,000 miles . Oh and certain Vtec models have been known to have the wiring harness melt down and smoke....Thats why I own a 5th gen 1999 VFR with the gear driven cams and no VTEC junk...

Its funny how these little battles happen between generations...... I'm sure each has its issues. I thought the v-4 might get away without having this problem because it doesn't need to rev as high as the I-4 in a 600. Not quite as much stress.... Oh well, is it a huge job or have any of you done them yourself? It is not too bad on the 600 since its one and theres no radiators to deal with on the side of the engine!!! I'm a little surprised that Honda doesn't make a design modification to fix this problem. Saying its inherent to a model is a cop out for a manufacturer.
