Well, I sold my 94 VFR in 2002 - just moved to Columbus Ohio area and my wife didn't like me riding in and around a big city. We bought a Mustang GT convertible and played with it for 2 years. The bike itch got real bad in late 2004 and by spring 05 I was actively looking for a bike again. It came down to an 04 VTX1300C or an 03 VFR, settled for the VTX as something my wife would ride with me (she wasn' a fan of my VFR, she crashed a mini-bike years ago and never liked riding much anyways). So for tha last two years I've been riding the X, hanging with the cruiser guys and it's not my style. Met up with my old riding buddies near Mid-Ohio this past summer and we rode to the track. Two weeks later I decided to do a lunch ride with the local HSTA. Needless to say, I had a great time, scrapped my floorboards more then a liked and generally found a VTX isn't the best in the twisties. More importantly the HSTA are my kind of riders. The crusier guys just want to ride to the bar and drink :frown:.

So I've started to look for a VFR - leaning towards a fifth gen, but I do like the pipes on the 6th gen - not sure about the Vtec (Honda's bad idea) and cam chain.

The biggest question is convincing my wife that I need two bikes. Wouldn't expect her to ride a VFR when she's only ridden my comfortable cruiser 3 times in two years.

This may come across as kind of rude...

Be a man. Tell your wife you WANT another bike. You don't need one, you WANT one. No one should have to live their life based on someone else's rules. Get a 5th gen & you wont regret it.

    KC-10 FE out...

I was expecting a comment like that and it doesn't offend me. After riding for 36 years and 31 years of marriage I know how I have to approach the situation. She has never liked riding so that's a strike against the two bike idea. However, like I said, 3 rides in two years is all she has done. She would never take a bike trip with me even when I had a wing or an ST1100. Its just not her thing. So it is likely that I would eventually sell the X if I buy another VFR. Which is really ok b/c the expectation of her riding 1.5 times a year is not that big of a deal. I'd rather ride w/o her anyways. I personally think it is safer when you are one up.

When I was younger and not married, taking a chick for a ride was hopefully the precursor for something later if you know what I mean:biggrin: . But hey, I've been married for a long time, a bike ride is not needed to make things happen in an amorous way:cool:.

I tried the mustang GT to see if it met my need for acceleration, it didn't. I tried the X to see if it had enough bike performance to meet my needs. It has some merits - its very easy to ride, lots of off the line torque and comfortable for long trips (once I put $1500 in accessories on it). however, when it came to cornering, I had to work hard to not scrape something and I couldn't just pass anything without really estimating whether I had enough time to get around the other vehicle (there is something to be said about the ability to pass two semi's in a row on a two lane road with oncoming traffic and have plenty of time - like on my 94 vfr ).

The dinner ride with HSTA really brought all this home. I miss my VFR and I know what I have to do. Just got to plan it right:smile:
