tip sensor?

    so i dropped my bike.




    and it tries to start up...but nothing happens...it will crank over and over but i wont get an ignition.


    i was told to check the tip sensor..and it was on the front of the bike...

    anybody give me an exact location? im kinda woozy from the fall so its hard to tell....

    The bank angle sensor (tip sensor) is located behind and slightly below the dashboard. It's bolted to the front of the instrument binnacle subframe,and is buried under three relays. In this pic the windscreen,dash,and dash panel trim piece have been removed. The Red arrow points to the bank angle sensor.

    When you turn your key on...do you hear the hum of your fuel pump charging the system? If so, the problem isn't the bank angle sensor.

    If not, you can verify your suspicion by eliminating it from the system (troubleshooting only of course). Unplug the connector, and on the harness side, short the red and green wires with a bent paper clip (careful to not damage the female terminals)...if you then hear your fuel pump charging, you've found your problem.

    If yo fell in the left side check you kickstand switch also

    What I know is that the BAS (bank angle sensor) is essentially an oil-damped pendulum switch which serves to shut off the ignition and the electric fuel pump should the motorcycle be dropped. What I know about it is its function is solely to prevent oil starvation in your engine in the event your bike ends up on it's side not moving, that is, it has no gyroscopic force acting on the trigger ball inside of it.

    A BAS (functioning normally) should only shut off the bike at something like 45degrees when the bike is not moving (or moving very, very slowly). If the bike is moving i.e. cornering, the forces on the bike keep the ball at relatively the same position as it would be with the bike straight up and down.

    Most that I have read about them is that many folks could just simply upright the bike, turn off the ignition key (or in some cases disconnect the battery), turn the ignition back on and it would start. Unless the ball in yours is sticking...in that case, maybe a gentle tap might be in order....OR, maybe yours is defective/faulty. I have heard of oil leaking out of some of them on Honda ST's for example, and this allowed the ball to jump/move more than usual during normal riding causing the bike to hiccup when hitting large bumps/dips.

    Then again, you might be out of your mind to listen like to a :crazy: nut like me....:moonie:

    well...i dont think it is the sensor now. my fuel pump is on...and it looks like the sensor in unharmed...

    but it was on its side for a bit...so possibly oil got in my airbox/spark plugs...?

    i just cant figure out why it wont start.

    it will crank and crank and crank...but wont ignite.

    True derstuka...matter of fact there are a few years in the early 90's they were recalled on GL1500's and ST1100's. When you removed the recalled ones, you could shake 'em and hear the pendulum inside hitting the sides with hardly any resistance. If the bike falls, they should 'right' themselves when the bike is stood up.

    If the kickstand switch were faulty, don't think your starter would spin at all.

    I like the airbox/spark plug idea. That's definitely worth a check.

    Which way did it fall? If its on its right side, check to make sure ECU was alright as its real close to the fairing by the turn signal lens.
