I thought I would start a thread where we can list some common problems and the solutions. Even easy upgrades or whatever.

My bike has been great, but I did have a problem with it leaking oil. Turns out that the leak was comming from the water pump. The pump is driven from within the crankcase, and the seal on the crank case side of the water pump had failed. This caused oil to seep past the seal and out a small hole located on the bottom of the water pump. The only solution is replacing the water pump. I attempted to find new seals for the pump, but could not locate any. Plus, it would be a big job to press on the seals and make it all work right as the pump (as far as i know) isint designed to be re-built.

I went through at least 3 regulators. I converted the system to use an F2 regulator and have not had any further problems, but I know of a few other high mileage 86-87 VFRs that burned up regulators
