    Hiya gang,

I tried to pull off my Staintune Slip on the other day, but no luck. I loosened the clamp to get it out of the way, but the slip on wouldn't slip but about 2mm.

Help! What kind of penetrating oil (would this be suitable?) would do it? The ole' 3 n' 1 ??? I have to pull this thing off to get my wheel off .

    Suggestions are most appreciated

That I'm asking this question indicates that I'm certain it is: There's a pin in there???

Oh my:eek: Where is this pin? I'm certain that it's probably in the most hard to reach spot they could think  I've looked in the manual and it does not indicate any such pin. The slip on was on the bike when I bought it used.

Any help is most appreciated

I had the same issue not long ago.

I used an industrial penetrating oil called "Kroil" that we use where I work.

I hit it repeatedly over about an hour and a half, then wiped everything down well, then heated up very carefully with a soldering torch after removing the clamp, taking care not to let it discolor. you may or may not want to take this step. DO NOT heat it very much and stay right near the slots only. When I say hit it repeatedly I meant with the Kroil....sorry.

I then spread the slots very gently with a chisel andrubber malleted it off......

Took a while and some major patience, but it finally popped loose.

Pain in the butt to say the least, it got a nice coating of Neverseize when it went back on.

Take the clamp off all the way first, mine did not have a little pin in it that I recall, but you need to get to those slots anyway.

    good luck

There was a pin in mine from the factory and there was a place to use it on my Yoshi pipe. Slide the clamp up and you should see it.

Much thanks Vfourbear and Y2kViffer. Now I have the appropriate guidance! As I suspected. I needed more patience and less haste :)

PS - I might as well use this to ask another exhaust question. Here it goes: I went to the site where they have my slip on pipe. I saw a photo of the high-mounted one like that is on my ride, and it's a really purdy shiny stainless steel. The shine on mine is less than this fine (hahaha...and a rhyme). What's a good steel polish/shine/cleaner that's CHEAP!!! (think functional and inexpensive)

As you can see mine needs some TLC

For the pipe: XXX fine steel wool and a metal polish will bring that pipe back to 100%.

    Stuck Pipe - Off!

    Yep,

I used some trusty ole WD40 and mixed it with some "Elbow Grease" and patience, and I was able to free my slipper.

I figured I needed to close this outstanding thread with a solution. BTW, I'm pulling the pipe because I am getting a brand new pair of Shinkos this week and I have to pull my wheels.

    Peace!
