Hey guys, I just picked up an unmolested 84 VF500F with 15k miles on it. The bike is in great shape, but there is a few issues I want to take care of.

1: Is there a service manual available someplace as a PDF?
2: There seems to be an air leak in both front forks and also the rear shock, are there re-build kits available?
3: All of the original black plastic parts are faded to a silver gray color. Where would I look for replacements in good shape?
4: Any recommendations on inexpensive tires that would be comparable to what would be original on the bike?
5: I'd like to perform a valve adjustment to the bike also, is this something that a competent shade-tree mechanic can pull off, or should I take it into a shop?
6: The original paint and decals are faded from the sun, has anyone just replaced the decals and buffed out the original paint without a re-paint? Any feedback on the CBdecals.com kit?

    Thanks Guys,
    -Rob

welcome aboard. I saw some where on this site a PDF for the 500 have to do a search.
Don't add air to the front, rear no rebuild kit. alot people are buying an CBR F4 and having Jamie work him magic on it, then install. E-Bay for parts . some are getting harder to find. valve adjustment check around this site. CBdecals.com is a good place to start. got mine from a guy in England. Good luck

Rocker adjustments can be done by a backyard mechanic but it is a pretty involved job.

You can do it without special tools but it's easiest to pull the whole motor. Here's a link to a writeup I found with a method that worked well. Not having pictures, it won't mean much without knowing what the rocker system looks like on the V4

Classic Honda VF - V4 Sabre Magna Interceptor

If the thought of pulling your motor and putting it back in doesn't scare you, you'll be fine adjusting the valves.

check for wear marks and scoring on the cam lobes - no wear, no worries.

Look for a motorcycle salvage yard near you.

Attach photos of this unmolested virgin

Just ignore me if I'm getting too nosey.

You will find that a lot of us on this site have Vf500f's or are involved with them in one way or another. So some if not all of us would like to know what you gave for a 15K mile virgin with faded paint and grey colored black plastic parts?

get out the lipstick and hair dye

At that price she's worth a makeover. Keep her out of the sun. Get a cover if you don't have a garage. If all her pieces are intact I'd say you 'done well'. hope she runs better than she looks, then you really stole her.
