Ok, so I need to replace my stator. I have downloaded the service manual that is floating around. However, it describes two special tools to remove the flywheel. Are these necessary and can they be found at an auto parts store?

Are there any caveats I should know about, or just start unscrewing things and see what I find?

    Thanks

When i needed to do the same thing, i discovered that you can pull the outer rotor off by means of a simple trick: first unscrew center bolt, then place 2-3 pennies, nickels, or dimes in the hole, then thread the bolt back in and tighten it. Do this three or four times, and increase the thickness of coins each time until rotor pops off.

The rotor is highly magnetized, so be sure it hasn't grabbed hold of any nuts or washers b4 you install it. Use locktite on the 4 stator bolts.

So I'm now gonna try and install the stator, as I have some time. When I take of the alt housing is there fluid in there? Again, the service manual suggests there is, but at the same time it doesn't make sense that fluid would be flowing around electrical components.

    Thanks!
