+!, Mainerider, I love the Sport Riding Techniques book. The author Ienatsch recommends that you practice maximum braking technique often, but always off the street in a safe place. His version of practicing your braking at the maximum limit of traction means that when you hear that front tire begin to 'howl', you gently ease off the front/rear brake so that it will not lockup. He does not go for stunting at all, it's simply too dangerous anywhere, but especially on the street.

Dang, I thought I was old, but it seems that is relative. Ok, duh, you should not drive recklessly in traffic. But if you own a bike and want to wheelie, stoppie, burn out or even jump the damn thing in a private environment, that is your business. Blanket statements that you can't or shouldnt do any of those things is being a crotchity old man. Hell, I'd like to see someone backflip a VFR. Some people seem to think the VFR is sacrosanct, but it is a motorcycle, and a damn fun one at that. I don't have the skill to carry a stoppie. I have lifted the rear tire doing panic stop training during sport bike training class. And I also know that in first gear at a steady 6000 RPM, cracking the throttle will lift the front wheel. Feels great.

    well. I finally did it.

Weird thing is i wasent really trying hard. I only went up a few inches, had to confirm with my wife behind me that it actually went up.

It was fun, havent been able to do it since.

I would agree with Rvfr.....not to do on streets. people around me seem to have a very poor view of sport bikes in general, i do what i can to change that perception.

that being said, i have lifted my rear tire up (start out about 25 mph) to the point that i can let off my brakes and still be rolling balanced on my front tire, and as it settles re-aply so the back end doesnt slam down. getting this high on a vfr is extremly hard, and i have quit screwing around like that untill i can afford a seprate stunt bike...it has to be hell on suspension parts.
and this was a little side road in an industrial park with lots of room no traffic, etc.

    2 questions for here though.

1 its your bike, and though i think all vfr owners recoil at the thought of some idiot mistreating such a beautifull machine, its there desicion.

2 is there just a negative attitude towards stunting even if not on the streets? it is a big part of the sport for some people. i would like to get into it, but i value the touring/commuting aspect of it more, and have a type of bike that reflects that. a stunt bike would be a mere toy, not serious transportation like my vfr..........

(side note. weather is going to crap here in MI, so i am parking after this weekend. looked at the odometer, just put on 10k in one year. getting my use out of it)
