    Hi,

I've had a need for speed from a little boy, got my first CB50 at age 11 and have been on all CB's up to a 750, I got my first CBR600 in 93 then up to a CBR1000 in 97. Got My little big red baby VFR in 2004 because the new 1000RR I made the deposit on before I stood beside it....was too little for my frame....I'm a big boy... Since the money had been flowing into the dealer for five months by then ( I was in Afghanistan the year 03 when Honda told the world that a 1000RR was coming out, back then while looking at the pictures I soon found out when I returned to the states that all the riders were little in the magazines  ) Any hoo you get the picture…I got Honda’s biggest wheelbase sport bike in the showroom….. the VFR800.

We hit it off on the ride home just because of the ride…to me it was like being on a bicycle…I hit all the corers hard and tight and had the biggest smile on my safe as I stated showing off just how low to the ground I could get at under 35mph. Oh Man! I had never done that with any of my old bikes….knee that close to the ground under 35 that is…I was hooked also the first time I took her out on the road with friends….ZR1, 929, a few 600’s CBR and ninja’s I always was the big guy with the old 1000 but now I had to introduce the 800 to them. At first I thought that the second valves were an added kick that would boost me past up to the big horse runners…I soon found out that the VFR was a high end bike….no power off the line…not until 6500rmps….so it was catch up with high rpm’s……that sucked in a crew of 600’s….on the open road were I could open her up…the 600’s never saw it coming…I soon found my spot and starting showing off the VFR’s handling at low speeds…not so much looking to beat them off the line but turning the corner I had much better handling than any of the other bikes and was able to pick my spot on the road and get to it with better control….Love it as I got to pick the best riding spots in the city runs because I can get to them with ease….I soon got the Commander III with O2 and the filter blowing to the two bros slip….she became as buff as the one GXR in our Military Crew….154 on an open two mile straight run…AVG 143.... no one every gets close…we ride the same streets in up state NY when we are not training or deployed….I will admit I’m hard on her  ….. Can get the frount up when i have hot running engine and push the crew every time I see an open run with rail guards on both sides…I’m out …catch me if you can  ….since I live were the summer last for four month a year and the nature of my job…that is about it…

I’m a reader and a dreamer when it comes to my VFR….she has been in storage for a year this time 06….so look for me to be asking questions…mostly just reading along….

looking to meeting new riding friends.

:welcome: to VFRworld and the V-4, and thanks for all your years of service in the Army.

I'm also glad that I didn't get the 1000rr "I was very close" because after doing a switch with my buddy who had the 1000rr, I felt like I went a couple of rounds with Tyson after half a day riding that beast. I'm way more sport rider than touring oriented and love the VFR, it's such a great all around bike.

How lucky are you having a girl who rides, the closes my wife gets to mine is sending off the insurance bill

P.S. I'm very jeolous of your PClll, I must get one!!!

    Thanks All....

Hay R.W. an ides for you getting your wife on a bike....start her at a park ...one with the grass high...not cut...its very hard to lay the bike down...the grass levels the ride and get the student to a place were they feel that if they do fall the soft grass with ease the pain....and its lite damage on the bike....

I put my wife on the CBR1000 because of the weight....its stands up in tall grass....you know the wheels make a grove in the grass that is grate for a first time rider

After a few days in the park stopping and shifting gears...she would be ready for the streets....after that the license....

    VFR or CB1000RR

I went to the local Honda shop with delusions of buying an RR. Tom Russell, who's been selling Honda's since they first evolved, asked me why I wanted an RR. I told him wretched excess.

Tom pointed out to me that my 95 VFR was paid for, and his idea of the perfect sport bike. He then asked how often I rode at 10/10ths.

I would like to have an RR, but he made a good point.

    Get wife in to sport!

One of the greatest thing that I ever heard my wife say was" instead of buying me a Road King, let's buy matching SV1000 and 650s, I'll just keep the Shadow.".

Send your wife to MSF course. It'll make your and her life easier.

If you wife is involved in your sport, she's far more forgiving when you drop a wad of cash on accessories, etc.:first:

The way I got my wife into riding was very simple. I bought a bike & put it in the garage when she wasn't home. When she got home from work, I presented her with a gift certificate for 1 on 1 riding lessons with a private instructor. Her reaction was pretty funny. Her reply: "How can I take riding lessons, I KNOW you're not letting me use your bike." I told her I would work on borrowing someones bike from work. Later in the day I asked her to get something in the garage and she freaked when she saw the 1989 Honda Hawk sitting there. The private lessons were worth every penny of the $450 it cost. When she took the test at the DMV, she nailed it. When she took the MSF course on base (so she could ride on base) she rode circles around 90% of the testosterone fueled retards in the class all of which were trying to show off for the "only chick in the class". 2 guys dropped their bikes in that class. She's had the same bike for 3.5 years now and we are upgrading next year to probably a Ducati Monster S2R. She wants a bike like mine but I still think it's too heavy for her, in fact, it's too heavy for me.

It is a 100% true statement about getting your significant other involved in whatever is important to you if you want their support or acceptance. When I lived on Guam, SCUBA dove every chance I got & she complained about how much it cost. My shop chartered the same dive company I used every weekend for a shop party. When I found out about this, I talked to the Captain and asked if we could stop at sites that offered great snorkeling as well as great diving. We did just that and I had my scuba instructor give her an "introduction to scuba diving" dive. She was hooked. When I was in SC, I made money on the side as a firearms safety officer at the local range. That branched out into teaching people to shoot for $25/hour. My wife asked how come I was gone every Saturday morning at the gun range. I told her why and she asked to come with me one morning. She got bored with the .22 revolver in less than one hour. I gave her a 9mm pistol, same thing. I handed her a .357 with adjustable sight & a 6" barrell loaded with .357's not .38's. She's been hooked on shooting ever since and she's GOOD at it, real GOOD. It's scary to watch someone with no firearms experience nail 2" groups freehand at 25 yards with a 2.5lb gun. Get your wife/husband/gay lover/lesbian life partner/slave boy/dominitrax involved with what's important to you and it can only benefit you both in the long run. How else could I get my wife to agree to a 12 hour drive twice a year just to ride some roads? Not to mention the $3500 my trailer cost.

    KC-10 FE out...

Thanks for the idea but there is absolutely zero chance she will ever have her own ride, I had a hard enough time getting her on the back of my 2003 Road King.

Don't get me wrong, I love her to death  but coordination is not one of her best attributes, her idea of a good time is going to Europe and reading, maybe that's why her I.Q. is so much higher than mine...
