Greetings all from the Mile-High City! I just picked up a '86 V500F with 13k miles on it from a friend. He had bought it new, ridden it lightly for several years, and parked it in the back of his garage 11-13 years ago. His wife's constant nagging and my wanting to learn about and get in to the motorcycle world lead to my receiving it. If I give it a good home, gratis, if I sell it, I agreed to give him whatever I get over parts I put in to it. It's in fantastic shape, hoses look to be in good condition, but I figure it'll take me at least the winter to get it in shape to start up. Any suggestions on a website to buy a factory manual for one of these bad boys?
Nice looking ride! You need to make sure your bike has the top oiling mod... Poor oiling to the cams is the bikes weakness. Otherwise the guys on this forum rave about them! Good news is that one of the members in particular (among many others)on this site can guide you in the right direction. PM VFRworld - View Profile: JamieDaugherty when you get a chance. He seems to know all the ins and outs of your bike. Your local honda dealership can order you a manual or you can try ebay(I also think it may be downloadable off this site!)

You've got a great first bike. I've owned 4 of them over the years and have never had a problem. The benefit that you've got is that it has low miles and you know the history. It looks to be in great shape too. The 500s were less affected than the VF700/750 were as far as the top end problem goes. I did put a top end oiling kit on my current 500, but honestly felt it was not necessary. Congratulations and welcome.

Thanks for the welcomes! Matt- Fantastic write-up! Maybe I'll do some modding after I be sure it's something I really want to get in to... but I was considering taking the wheels to a light gray instead of the black... otherwise I just want to get it in good running shape.
Welcome aboard. I bought an 86 VF500 new in September of 1986 and rode it for over ten years. I still miss that bike!
