I need a VFR asap for commuting duty. I have found an '02 with 3k and an '07 with 10k. Which is the better bike? Should I be concerned about miles? Price is $5k for the '02 and $6500 for the '07. My sense is the '07 is the deal. Should I be concerned about the higher miles on the '07? What wears out on a VFR at 10k mileage?

And, what are the best heated grips and touring windscreen?

    Thanks!
    David

+1. Go with the newer bike; 10k miles is nothing. It's worth the 5 year difference.

07 is the way to go. I just rolled over the 10k mark on my 06 (bought in april 09) and she's doing just fine. 10k on a vfr is nothing. I just got back from a vfr meet and there were bikes at the meet with over 60k and one with 120,000 miles on the clock.

+1. I felt like my '04 was finally really broken in at 10k. I'm at almost 38k now and I think the bike is smoother than ever.

One bit of advice tho: Check out deals on leftover (i.e. still new on showroom floor) '07 VFRs. Honda is offering up to $2600 off on them right now, so there's potential to find a new one for a little more than the used one you're eyeing. Check it out.

    Remember.......

You still have to pay freight charge and handling fee + tax and license ...which can add up to $1500 dollars on top of $6800 or what ever price when the bit is end:rolleyes:

I bought a new 07 in Aug for $7,299 with tax ($218) and title ($139). So you could get one OTD for $7,657. (bought in Richmond VA)

    Craigslist

There is one in Tracy Ca. that has been for sale for about six months. Just thought I would throw it out there as I think he is quite desperate and may deal.

I know how you feel!! I bought my 06 early this year for $6800 with 3k miles on it, and now I can get a new 07 for the same price. Just wait until the new vfr is released, then you will really see some cheap 6th generations for sale. If only I had a crystal ball.

I think that's one reason for the big discounts right now. 2-year old bikes still on showroom floors, new VFR coming out very soon...Honda has to take their licks to get rid of those leftovers.

Yep, just picked up a new 07 Red for 6800 + tax...

There were two RWB's on the floor beside it, and they built out two more Reds while I was there. Don't know how many they have still sitting in crates in their warehouse???

I've personally seen more wear in rubber components like seals, hoses, wiring connectors, etc. on vehicles with more age.

Then again, there are things that only mileage can wear on, like brakes, clutch disks, cylinder walls and rings, timing chains etc.

I think I'd personally go for a newer bike with more miles, it's also proof that it's been used, and hasn't been left sitting idle a lot, which creates it's own issues.

    GL
