    i believe the rear size is a 130/80 18

does anyone know where i can find a cheap tire in that size? i basically use the bike for commuting.

and is there an option for going wider without any modification?

    thanks

    Aaron

Not really many options out there for something wider without modification. You should be able to find stock size tires without too much trouble. Where have you been looking? Go to your local dealer and pull out the Parts Unlimited book, you should be able to find several options in there. Kenda's aren't bad and pretty cheap. Cheng Shin is also gotten better over the years so if you are looking for cheap that's not a bad choice either.

i dont have a local dealer (about 65miles from the nearest shop motorcyle shop of any kind), i was looking to purchase online....

and just glancing at it there appears to be roughly 10mm clearance on either side of the tire, i could be wrong though... so going to a 140 or 150 is out of the question without mods?

It's not the clearance around the tire that is the issue - you can run a 170 rear tire with the CBR wheel kit that I make. The issue is the wheel. It can only handle (safely) a certain range of tire sizes. Trying to squeeze something bigger on there isn't a good idea. Keep in mind too that a wider tire will just get pulled in by the bead location, so you really don't get much anyway.

If you want to go with a 140 that's probably ok. A 150 is too wide for the stock wheel.

There's really no need for a larger rear tire. I used to road race an 83 750 and the 130 rear was plenty for the bike. Plus with todays compounds the street tires stick like the older race tires.

I put a set of the Continential Conti-Go's on this year. Nice tires! Can't wait to try them in the rain.
