Hi, I just bought my first VFR: a 99 VFR800. I like the bike a lot but when I tried to install the seat cowl that covers the passenger seat for the 1st time: correct me if I'm wrong: don't you have to use the tool inside the tool kit to fasten the cowl? If so, how are you going to put the tool back into the tool kit which is now safely secured under the seat?!
The only solution I have thought is to carry the little hex key with me all the time, or just hand tighten the bolts. Any good suggestions? Thanks.

Use a quarter to tighten the bolts. It's not a Harley so that makes them tight enough to not vibrate free.

If you don't have a quarter, and can't bum one when you need it, you might find that the edge of a housekey or a car key will fit. The generic spare I carry for my Ducati is an almost perfect fit.

Yep, I had the same question. I ended up just going to Sears and buying a short allen wrench that I carry in my jacket pocket.
