    Hi,

Paul from West Palm Beach, FL. I'm almost a VFR owner because I've decieded to buy one, but haven't yet. I'm presently riding an old '87 FZR1K, which I'm happy with as long as I stay in triple digit speeds that I do on my 45 mi commute to work. But I've been out of work, putting around looking for a job and this thing is killing me, at the speeds everybody else is driving ... at least my back, neck, wrists, knees ect. I joined the EXUP BROTHERHOOD and have learned so much about these bikes that I think I'd of bought something newer if I knew then. So I've got a lot to learn before I make up my mind, and I'm sure this site will help me make the right choice. I'm sure everyone has their own idea of which generation, size, color is RIGHT so that's what I'm here for. I got some ideas of what I want, but don't know if they are all in one bike. Don't wan't to change emulsion tubes anymore so FI is a must. I'd like to hear the whine of cam gears if those were still available with the FI. If I could get these together with the old style of the RC30 and little VFR with the two round headlights, I coulld paint it like that new "old" RWB color scheme. I'm sure I'll have to mix and match to get here, but don't have anything else to spend my money on. Glad to be a member and look foward to talking to you all. Thanks for any andl all advice, because I sure need it.

    Paul

and remembe its always easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission

    Hi Paul, welcome.

5th generation (1998-2001) will suit your requirements. Earlier bikes had carbs, 2002 bikes to the present don't have the gear driven cams.

Hi Paul and welcome to the group. David is correct, the 5th gen 1998 - 2001 will suite your needs as tehy are FI and still haev the gear driven cams. I think there is still a '00 model for sale listed in the classified section of the forum. Not sure how far it is from you tho.

    Thanks all,

That's what I thought, I missed one on ebay 2 yrs ago ... 18Kmi, veri bars?, solo seat new .. ect, a perfect bike for $3636 and only 48mi from where I was living in NJ, but my paycheck bounced and I had to take a 3 week trip to CA and he sold it to a 2nd offer. Oh well. Really don't want a cherry bike as I've lost my covered parking and as an OTR truck driver I'm gone for weeks at a time.
I was reading about some of the cooling problems some members of the forum were having and that is another concern I have with my bike, but apparently not as bad as some VFR problems. I like the twin radiators on the newer bikes, but would like to know which ones run the coolist in traffic. I'm tired of sitting in a bar for and hour every 2 miles when on the beach in weekend traffic. My new ride will have to stay cool when stopped for 2 cycles of a traffic light every 2 blocks because that what I encounter downtown Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. I've learned a few tricks with my bike to keep it cool, but once it hits 225 deg or so it just shoots up and won't come down till I'm back on the highway and above 30mph.
Well thanks for the replies, I was leaning to the 5th generation. I'm watching ebay, but prices haven't fallen yet like they have in the past. I just bought new Dunlops for my FZR so the pressure is off. $39.00 for a rear and $29.00 for a front, won't see deals like that again.
    Best reguars,
    Paul

All VFRs seem to run hot when in traffic. I know mine does!
