engine vibs at 6-7K rpm

Hi

I've recently bought this 99 VFR800fi with 36K miles on the clock, performing
great so far but I do get an irritating engine vibration/harshness between 6K-7K rpm.
below and above that fairly smooth. Is this normal for this model.
I have synced the starter valves but made no difference, I wonder if the
the throttle bodies need syncing. Before I take it apart just checking this not a normal characteristic.

 

Hey that sounds just like mine, except mine gets rough around 5.5k. It's allways been there, so I thought it's just a characteristic.

 

Tightening the engine mount bolts is always an option if it has not been done before.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will check the engine bolts. The previous owner also had to have a Motad ss downpipes dealer fitted. This because the orginal pipes had rotted through shortly after the sale and there was some resistance by the dealer to replace them, so there was reluctance to do the work. ( not a good sign).
I not sure if the engine had to be dropped to install them.
It would be interesting if other members noticed a vibration patch appearing when aftermarket dowpipes are fitted.
The valve shims are due for inspection so that needs to be done. Still deciding whether its worth the time and effort to do it myself or get known good mechanic to do it.
I know both rads need moving to get at the heads.
Anyone done the shims - and did they need adjusting after recommended number of miles. A honda dealer will want over £150 but a least I may get a experianced mechanic to notice what is normal or abnormal.

 

Defendant on your sensitivity or how bad could well be normal, my '99 also has a mild period of harshness between 6-7k but sublimely smooth above and below. The '00 Gen5 Mk2 have weighted pegs to quell the peg vibration from this range.

 

Have you (or anyone for that matter) done this with any measurable seat of the pants results? Please let me know because I never knew this might be a potential problem. I need to check the shop manual when I get home tonight! Thanks for the insight on this.

 

ive got the motads on my bike. though they were a bitch to install, you do not drop the engine to install.

 

Last time I got a vibration around 6K RPM I popped the seat and repacked the tool kit, also used pieces of bicycle inner tube to insulate any other loose parts and it all went away.

I always start with the cheep fix first.
