I've reached a point where I need GP shift (reverse pattern) on my RC51 track bike. In order to get accustomed to it, I need it on my street bike. Trouble is though, no one seems to make a GP Shift kit for the VFR.

I took a CBR954 rearset, gave it some heat to open up the mounting points slightly. Then I took a stepped bit and made the bolt holes slightly larger. In order for the rearset to clear the swingarm, I stacked two washers per bolt behind the rearset to act as spacers.

I bolted everything up and adjusted the shifter. It's tight for sure--just touches the bodywork when shifting, and the shift rod itself touches the kickstand spring, but nothing binds.

The fear of feeling the ground tug at my Sidi boot again while preparing for an upshift around a sweeping turn. Harmless or not, I don't like it--it holds me back, messes with my head.

And as a matter of principle, reverse shift makes a lot more sense. I only downshift when the bike is pretty much vertical, and getting my foot under the shifter while braking is easier than when accelerating.

best to put sticker on bike that says GP shift.
It sucks when you forget and shift the wrong way, it takes a bit to get used to it.

I know a buddy who's going to do this on his street bike for the same reasons.

    Interesting...

i could understand if my bike was a track bike id be all for it. but mines a dayly driver, so backing up and turning around every day in a gravel driveway, not a good idea to be on my tiptoes... plus the added stability doesnt hurt either...
