I had a friend that had been having problems with an 86 fz600 and needed money to buy a car. So I bought it from her and decided to try to fix it.

She had put in a new battery before I bought it from her and I replaced the regulator thinking that was why it wasn't charging. Turns out it wasn't the regulator... Went and bought a multimeter and did a little light reading on how to use it and properly test the whole motorcycle charging system.

To my dismay everything seemed to be working the way it should. So I decided to take it out and warm up the bike a bit. Tested everything and the battery had been run down and was not getting a good charge from the regulator. I pulled the plug from the stator to the regulator and tested it and was getting 4VAC and less when the engine is revved. So I checked the stator itself and it is extremely hot to the touch.

I really am not too keen on purchasing a used electrical part from another bike that is 23 years old. So my question is have any of the guys that have older bikes had their stators repaired by RMStator? Are they as good as new? Do they stand behind their work?

So I take it no one has used RMStator to have an old stator repaired?

I'm pretty sure I don't want to be the guinea pig for that price. Looks like I'll be checking at the salvage yards for my *new* stator.

Have you checked Electrosports or Rick's Electrics?

Looking at 130.00 for a new aftermarket stator from those companies.

Thanks a lot for the links BZ. Electrosport didn't have one for the FZ but Rick's did. Rick's even offers a 1 year warranty on their products.
